Xgody 9T pro not loading apps

I have an Xgody 9T pro, running Android 9 and when I try to download the Lloyds Bank app (amongst others) it tells me my device cannot run that app. Very confused, my previous phone was a samsung with Android 8 and that worked fine (until the phone died!). I'd love to know if anyone else has had similar problems and if it was with Xgody and if they got around it.

What is telling you that the device cannot run the app? Is it the app store you use telling you you can't download the app (and is that the Google Play Store or some other), or can you install the app but then the app itself tells you that it won't run on your device? It may make a difference where the problem is.

Actually I did a little bit of research on this device (since I'd never heard of the manufacturer), and one really odd thing I found was a video review where the reviewer states that although the phone's software will tell you it is running Android 9 it is actually running 4.4. If that is accurate (and knock-off phones do sometimes use older versions of Android and lie about it) then it would certainly explain your problem, and there would be no solution because there is no chance that anyone has produced a modern custom ROM for a device like this.

not surprised really. it is why i will never buy off brand devices......just way to many issues, no matter how good of a deal it seems.

i concur with the video's conclusions about this thing, and having seen them for myself, it's definitely running Android 4.4, and NOT Android 9. The camera is dreadful as well.

Best thing to do is return it to Wish or wherever it came from for a refund. And then get a Samsung or something else decent that works with your apps.


These Xgody peeps haven't even bothered to change or disguise the stock Android 4.x icon set in the thing!

Install something like CPU Info or CPU-Z, and that should tell you exactly what you've got there.

I could tell pretty much immediately, this phone is running an Android 4.x version. Of course I've taken an interest in these things.

Welcome to my world! I'm in China and I have a Samsung phone.

I think what they've actually done with this particular cheapo knock-off, and why it's got such an ancient Android version. They're using old, recycled, and/or leftover parts like chip-sets and logic boards, which can only run older Android versions. Fitting them into a contemporary smart-phone housing, and doctoring the firmware to show "Android 9". The Xgody 9T pro is only 2G(GSM) and 3G(WCDMA) capable, NO 4G. That's something else that reinforces my theory it's made up using old parts. Some carriers are turning off their 3G networks now, which would render this phone useless.

The way to avoid things like this, is to only buy brands you've actually heard of before, and NOT $50 cheapo from Wish or Ali Express.

I found an online site "whatismyandroidversion.com" which has identified 9 Pie as the operating system. Since this is an independent site it leaves me even more confused.
I didn't buy from Wish or Ali Express and I have heard of Xgody. I would be fascinated to know how you could tell what OS my phone was running from the rather scanty information I have posted

That's only going by what the browser tells it, via the Browser ID String. Which I suspect has been doctored as well. Suggest you try one of the diagnostic info apps I posted, like CPU-Z.

It's really what's in the YT video review @Hadron posted, that I saw what this thing really is. Specifically the Settings screen, which looked very spartan for Android 9, but is typical for Android 4.x.

Apparently the Android security patch level is two years before Android 9 even came out?
The Baseband identifier string corresponds to the discontinued Mediatek MT6580 SoC. See my previous comments about Xgody using old or recycled parts.
Also the 3.10 Kernel version, which is from 2013 and was used in Android 4.x.

Of course that's in addition to having the stock Android 4.x icon set, I've already mentioned.

I'm familiar with Xgody in China, theirs any many other cheapo products are usually sold by street sellers and night markets around here, along with the counterfeit iPhones and knock-off Gucci bags, etc. The Xgody in the video was bought from Wish. Whereas the mainstream brands like Samsung, Huawei, Xiaomi, Sony, Apple, etc, are sold in reputable brick'n'mortar stores, or online directly from the manufacturer.
