Help xoom froze help asap

I seriously need some help I tried xoom forums and they gave me there best advice hoping someone here can help. About 3 weeks ago my xoom froze up, I can see the hompage the clock is ticking and everything can see the updates in lower right corner poping up. The vloume button works the power button works. Its as if there is a screen lock button or something which I know there isn't but that will give you a idea. I've soft reset the device about 30 times home screen comes up and can't touch anything. I've factory reseted it using the outter buttons as someone told me that might help now im stuck at welcome screen select language then press start. But I can't press start. So I heard sometimes the touch screen ribbon comes loose. So I took it apart and it was attached loose but still attached. I took the battery out as well. I replaced everything to normal turns on and im stuck at the same welcome screen and can't touch nothing. Im not a root user I don't know even how to do it I have a 32 gb verizon 3g xoom. There's no scratches or smudges on screen or anywhere. I even put it in a thing of rice for a few days thinking somehow condinsation got in there, still nothing. I called verizon they want me to pay 150 because my warranty expired. I bought it offline for 300 maybe 6 months ago warranty expired in may. I have had no problems at all and all of a sudden I was using it sat it down came back 20 min later hit the power button took it out of sleep mode to homescreen, and couldn't touch anything. My last option if no help here is to replace the screen or take it to the firing range. Any help would be appreciated
