Help Xoom wifi troubles...

I received my Xoom yesterday and after it found my network and I entered the pass key it connected and worked without issue all night. Just got home from work today and it says "no internet connection." It keeps trying to obtain an IP address but just times out and tries again. Its been doing this for a half hour. I tried rebooting it but still the same. Any ideas?

Might be simple but maybe your internet connection is just down? Also, maybe the dhcp server is down, mine goes down once a month.

reboot your router.

Did that. No luck. Our other laptop has worked fine throughout. I seems that when the Xoom does get connected it does not reconnect after I wake the unit up. The tablet just says no internet connection and the wifi settings showing it endlessly attempting to obtain an IP address on my network. Very odd.

Same issue occuring here..its really weird. My computers and droid x all connect fine but my xoom won't,says obtaining IP address. Then it'll randomly connect for awhile and repeat the process again. Its not the xoom tho cuz while its doing that if I try and tether the xoom to my droid x it gets the IP right away and works fine.. I'm trying to determine what conditions are causing this..

To the OP are you using a mac address filter on your router?

The Wireless MAC Filter setting is disabled on my Linksys setup menu...should it be on?

When I powered on my Xoom this morning it found and successfully connected to my home network before it finished booting. Just checked it a minute ago and fortunately it was still connected...last night it would drop whenever I woke it. Not sure what is going on here. About to take it to my parents...hoping it will play nice on their wifi.

Try going into the advanced settings of wi-fi and changing the "sleep policy" to "never"

I see a "Wifi disconnect policy" under the wifi settings. I have this set to never. Is that what you are referring to?

My Xoom worked great at my parents. Once I remembered their password that is...sure would be nice if it let you know when you enter an invalid password when trying to log on to a network. Just got back home and it immediately connected to the remembered network. So for now it seems to be working fine.

Yeah, that is what I was referring to. The only way to know if you entered a bad password (key) is that you won't be able to get a valid ip address, that is true for all operating systems.

what security are you guys using? im using WPA on n 5ghz using a linksys e4200 stock firmware. unit locks to the wifi at home everytime.

are you guys also turning off data/3G antennas, etc?

My router is a Linksys WRT54GS. It's running in G-Only mode on channel 6 - 2.437GHz. Wireless security is WPA.

So while all was fine last night...when I got up a while ago I thought let me grab the Xoom and surf a bit in bed. Woke it and it showed "No Internet Connection." For the last half hour it has repeatedly done the "Scanning, Connecting, Obtaining IP address from network" cycle. It's terribly frustrating...to the point I just give up and use my desktop pc.

man i hate to hear that.

i have seen this mentioned elsewhere and rebooting the router worked for them.
have you tried giving the xoom a dedicated static IP?
have you also removed the router form the wifi list on the xoom and re-added it?

I had similar problems with another device and I had to reset the router to factory defaults and the set everything back up, after that everything worked fine. Can it connect to any other routers?

So it finally connected a while later and worked for a while. But now it's not working again. Talk about frustrating.

I Could try giving it a dedicated static IP. But obviously I would like to figure out why it is doing this. I'd hate to take it on vacation or wherever and find it's still having connectivity issues. Just tried removing my router from the list and after re-adding it I'm still getting the same problem. Perhaps I need a newer router? Not really sure. My phones and other laptops connect every time.

Just turned off wifi on the xoom. Restarted the router. Restarted wifi on the xoom and it connected immediately. What do you guys think is the likely reason the connection drops when the xoom goes to sleep?

it may be an issue with your router. i dont have this issue when the xoom i use goes to sleep. it connects just fine to the job network when its in range and the home network.

do you have the latest firmware on the linksys? are you using stock linksys firmware or DD-WRT, etc?

Try changing the channel on the router. Channel 6 is the default for most; try channel 11.

I'm running a WRTSL54GS with dd-wrt and WPA2-AES. I also live in an apartment complex populated by numerous U-Verse/2-Wire gateways. I recently had trouble connecting to my router from with a variety of devices. Turns out that a good number of them were recently changed to channel 6. So I switched over to channel 11 and my issue seems to have been resolved.

I think it's stock firmware...unless I updated it some time after I got it, but certainly not in the past couple of years. It's Firmware Version : v4.70.6

I too live in a populated area with tons of networks within range. I switched over to channel 11 and when I woke my zoom it connected in record time. Hopefully that does the trick!

EDIT: Crap...spoke too soon. Just tried to use xoom again less than a half hour later and it's the same old no connection...trying to connect nonsense. Talk about infuriating. lol

and did you do a factory reset on the router? man i know that is a pain since you would have to reinstall your settings, but i dont see what else you can do here, save a new router.:(

Seems when I reset the router and restart wifi on the xoom it works fine...until it sleeps for a certain amount of time and it loses the connection.

I guess I can try doing a factory on the router. Perhaps I should try and update the firmware first...assuming there is a newer version?

This happened to me once but it's really just the router and device (same thing happens on my EVO sometimes) getting stuck. Forgetting the network and re-adding it seems to work. Most of the time tho it doesn't seem to have a problem switching between wifi at home and work with 3G in between.

I know this is a very old posting, but I was trying the Xoom at BestBuy last night and it had the same wifi issue while the ipad did not. I tried rebooting and it connected but no real internet access. I tried forgetting the sifi profile and re entering it. It was an open unsecure connection. I hate to say it but the ipad had no issues at all. It connected I forgot that connection it refound it and I tapped on the wifi connection and it turned on right away. It certainly could have been the router setting but it was frustrating on the xoom. Any more recent comments?

Guys i had the same issue and i got it to work by disebleing the security on my router!
Once you are conected then go back and enable again.
Hope it works for you too

My new Xoom has just started with the attempting to wifi connect problem. I tested it a hotspot and it worked. At home I reset my DLink router by interrupting the power supply. That worked. Have to wait and see how long that holds. My Question: Am I going to have problems with connectivity when I travel??
Thanks

no you should not generally speaking. it would depend on the requirements of the hotspot/WAN you are connecting to as to how much difficulty, if any, you would get.
