XPeria 10 camera

I bought the Xperia because of it's expected picture quality with a stabilised lense and 8+ megapixels.

I have to say that it's terrible, much worse than 3 MP older phones, and yes, I'm a professional photographer with SLRs etc.

I know what all the settings are for, but set to "Landscape", stabiliser on, full resolution the pictures are very poor with much what looks like a weird excess of noise reduction artifacts.

Any advice or obvious thing I've missed would be appreciated.

First.....it is a phone first, camera 2nd.

Here is a thread on another site where I have posted some of the pictures I have taken with my phone.

Pictures taken by your X10 - Page 9 - xda-developers

I did not even touch those pictures after the fact....normally I do....but those pictures turned out well without any retouching.

If you think the camera on the phone is weaker than a 3 MP camera, you are doing something wrong.

i think its just your luck at times, sometimes my pictures are extremely good and others are just so-so and i dont really play with the settings much.
cant explain why some are turning out better than others but i do think its a pretty decent camera on the phone.

I had all sorts of issues with the camera focusing, then when you clicked, it was like it purposely unfocused right at the capture.

I used Vignette with the "fast" option and that solved that issue. I also have a custom 2.2 ROM and the camera in both the stock and vignette apps works quite well.

I have had pretty good luck with some pics.

When you take a picture of a detailed landscape it has problems with iso noise...all pixelated. But does great macro and it does better when there are large areas with the same colours...like a lake or a forest...but with buildings and when there are a lot of different depths...like things in the foreground, middle and background, it doesnt do the best. I have noticed better results when i use makeshift tripods out of sticks and empty packs of cigarettes.

Does a bad job in the dark, and unless u use a filter using an app like camera360 or vignette or retrocam when shooting indoors, you will probably to fix the image on a computer before it looks good.

I still like it and it can shoot great shots...just werky sometimes...always good to try different filters if you think the lighting is weird or dark....shoots black and white or sepia or whatever its called...does that very well.

can anyone tell me how to setup for a good picture taken...my phone is also don't have good picture when used it camera...my w910i and w8901i is more good at taken picture...

I am surprised that the other apparently advanced photographers that answered you didn't mentioned that on this phone's camera, using image stabilization actually makes the pictures worse.

Another thing - I find that I can take more stable pictures by using the touch to capture option rather then using the dedicated camera button.
