Xperia J walkman app won't read ext. sd card songs

Whenever i go to walkman app it just reads songs that were previously on and when i download new songs it doesn't read them or it takes 40 to 50 minutes.
This started happening yesterday and only with songs.
It fell twice on floor but i don't think that's the problem.
How can i fix it?
I've tried other apps.
And BTW since im here(this has nothing to do with this question):what are the risks of rooting

This started happening yesterday and only with songs.

Can you 'see' all the contents of the card with a file manager e.g. File Commander? If you can that rules out complete failure of the card or the associated hardware.

How can i fix it?

If you have a card reader connected to a PC/laptop, try removing the card from the phone, copying the contents to the computer using the reader, then reinsert the card in the phone and format it before attempting to copy the contents back.

I've tried other apps.
