Help Xperia Play Lagging Issues

Hi,
I have the Sony Xperia Play and I have lately been having some issues. A few days ago my phone started having these strange lagging problems. Basically everything I do now is very slow and takes a while such as texting and using applications. Anyone have any help? I'm on Verizon if that helps. Thanks!

How much free internal memory do you have left?

Main Menu > Settings > Storage > Tell us how much free internal memory there is please.

Ok so that is plenty of storage, have you installed any new applications recently that may be the cause of the issue?

Main menu > Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > All > Is there anything in here that is using a large quantity of space > You may also want to check the running services section in this same area for anything that stands out.

Well the largest application is Asphalt 6 which takes up 21.26 MB. But as it is a stock application i can't delete it. I recently downloaded temple run and that's when the changes seemed to start but i recently deleted it and nothing has really changed. There isn't anything in my Running Services that is doing much damage either.

One last thing to try is to use the phone for a bit without the memory card inserted to see if you get any change in performance.

Ok it sounds in this case like there may have been some corrupt data on the card that has caused an issue with the phone, however this should have been resolved via an update. Given this information I am only left with advising you have the handset sent in for repair unfortunately.

Ok so i was planning on sending the phone in for repair this weekend but my friend helped me with the damaged sd card problem. Now my only problem is that when i open up my texting app (I use handcent but the stock app still causes lag) and send a message the lag starts and causes everything else that I do on the phone to lag until i restart the phone. Then if I send another text the lag starts again. Is there any options or do i have to send my device in for repair?

Try this:

Main menu > Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > All > Messaging > Clear Data - please be aware this will delete all of the conversations for it as well.

Well it stayed unfrozen for about 3 texts and i thought that had fixed it but nope it started doing it again.

So it is still happening with both the inbuilt messenger and the other one you are using? You may need to do the same thing for both messaging applications.

Yea that's what I did but it appears that they are still keeping the messages. I'm going to try to delete the 3rd party messaging app and clear the data once I just have the stock messaging app. I'll tell you how it goes.

Well that didn't work either. When i cleared the data on the messaging app it didn't delete any of my conversations though. I'm guessing it was supposed to?

I just checked with one of my colleagues and apparently it used to by the newer versions of firmware do not. With this being the case you may need to manually delete the content combined with a clearing of the messaging data as this may help.

Sounds to me like there is an app running in the background that is consuming a large percentage of the CPU. Go into the app manager and force close as many of the running apps as you can. Let us know if that resolves it. If this is the case, see if you can narrow down which app it is and uninstall it.

I did it and as soon as a i force closed one of the apps the lagging stopped. I then uninstalled the app and have not had the problems since. Thank you so much!

there are some apps that needs to be installed in internal memory not in sd card so it loads faster. from now on you can try installing link2sd and what it does is create a symbolic link of your apps stored in your sd card so that your phone thinks it is saved in the internal memory but you have to be rooted first and that is one benefit of rooting your phone making it in super saiyans mode lol. disable auto-sync, animations, gps, bluetooth, wifi if your not using them that much. free up more space in your internal memory by moving them to sd card by using apps2sd (if your not rooted but link2sd is way more beneficial). you can disable some start-up apps by using system tuner (an all in one tool but you need to be rooted search google if there is similar app for non-rooted phones). Gemini app manager (for rooted) this app lets you manage in microscopic accuracy the launch behavior of your apps. do not use task killers it only restarts your running apps and your apps will eat again your internal memory making your phone laggy.
