Help Xperia S - No USB connectivity option - Mac

Hi, I am trying to connect my Xperia S (LT26i) on Android 4.0.4 to my Macbook by USB. When I do, it starts charging but doesn't recognise the phone whatsoever. It doesn't appear on the computer anywhere and neither does the computer on the phone. When I go to Settings > Xperia > Connectivity, the ONLY setting is "Install PC Companion". No USB connection mode setting at all (whether connected to computer or not).
If anyone can help me with this I'd really appreciate it. Sorry if this has already been posted before.
Thanks :)

Thanks for your reply. I have bridge for Mac but it does not read my phone. Nowhere on the computer is the phone picked up. No desktop/Finder icon or anything. There should be some kind of cable connection option on the phone but there isn't.

Thank you! I installed Airdroid as suggest in the link and it's worked for file transfer over wifi. Obviously not as fast as USB would be but it's certainly better than nothing.
