XPERIA Z - Do not buy if you live anywhere but in a city

I bought this phone as Testra had it as a Blue Tick phone (Good reception). Maybe with Teltra's network but not Optus. I live 23.7 km approx from the tower with direct line of site. Phone sometimes at 4 bars but then no network connection. Was to replace a Samsung S2 which has no problems. Optus have just returned it to me after I sent it back for checking. Don't buy this phone unless you live in a cilty with good coverage.

The network heavily depends on the network provider. Perhaps your provider did not sign you up to a broadband wide enough, so when there's a lot of people using, you will lose internet connection. My provider provides great LTE, so there's no problem with the internet.

Ask Optus for a replacement SIM card, to see if that improves matters.

A cursory check shows that they provide 3G service on the 900/2100MHz bands, whereas Telstra use 850/2100MHz. The Z supports all of these however so the difference shouldn't be a factor.

Went through all that and sent phone for checking. After much messing around it seems that here the strongest signal is G2 but the phone is also picking up a trace of G3. 3 to 4 bars it is on G2 then tries to connect to G3 spending ages with no connection before reverting to G2. Now set the phone to only pick up G2 and that has fixed the no connection problem. Now i only have a problem of remembering to reset the phone network each time I revisit civilization, which is at least 3 times a week. Bit of a nuisance.
