Root Xposed questions

Yep, just flash over the top and you won't lose anything and as long as you don't wipe when flashing the ftf, you don't lose anything. :)

Obviously take a backup in recovery before hand, but it went off without a hitch for me.

I used Monx for a bit, it is a good ROM and there's not much between his and NUT's.

If you're looking for customisation, have you heard of the Xposed framework? Works on any rooted ROM and there are tonnes of modules which allow loads of additional features like reboot menus, allowing 20MP pictures with Superior Auto, Memory fixes, theming options etc.

You install the framework app, grant it root, then you can download a list of modules which grant the additional features via the xposed app.

Oh grand, in that case I will flash NUTS over top tonight, thanks.
As it happens I came across Xposed when figuring out how to reverse tether, one of the routes I came across said it used either Xposed or Cydia (which confused me because I'm sure that's what I used to use on my iPod). But I still have no idea what it is. Is it just like a 3rd party app store that I guess I would find somewhere on xda?
Sounds like something I would like to have a tinker with, but I don't need to be a developer to understand and work it?

It's mega easy, no need to be a developer or anything fancy like that.

[FRAMEWORK ONLY!] Xposed - ROM modding without modifying APKs (2.5.1)(12.04.2014) - xda-developers

Have a look at some of the screenshots there. Install the framework, then browse through the list of modules available. Once the modules are installed, they'll have their own interface and can be run within xposed or some run as standalone apps.

XBlast, GravityBox are both pretty good if you want to theme your nav/status bar etc.

I've ran in to a few bootloops using it, but as long as you have a backup and a working recovery, it's no problem.

Dependant on what time the little one goes down, I'll be about most of tonight if you're stuck/want a play about/have questions.

I'd intended to do a comprehensive Xposed write up, but time is an exceptionally precious commodity for me at the moment. :(

OK great, thanks for that. You said I need to reflash the dual recovery? Why would that be? I already have a recovery installed don't I from the last one?

Yea would be great for some help / questions answered if you have time, think I will start a new thread if anything arises, I'm starting to clutter this guide

I'm just backing up etc, flash the .757 and then have a play on xposed.

Yeah, there's no dedicated recovery partition on Xperia devices, so dual recovery installs itself on /system (where the ROM resides), so every time you flash a ROM, it will wipe the recovery and install whatever version the dev included with the ROM. I think the version on NUT's .681 ROM is an older version and a little buggy, so before you actually flash anything, install the latest file with "flashablezip" in the filename via recovery, reboot and you're set.

Feel free to keep asking questions here for now and I'll spin off all the relevant posts to their own thread later on.

It might not work if you're not running AOSP, Gravitybox apparently only works on AOSP ROMs and I use that no problem.

They look like they're for Samsung ROM's only though.

In the end I tried a font app in the market and it worked! I thought it was only Samsung that you could do it on (although I do remember way back I used to change the for on Desire too).
Been having a lot of fun playing around changing every little bit of it, completely my own now :D...apart from the lockscreen. Have you noticed that you aren't able to change the lockscreen pic? I have tried it the stock way (personalisation etc) and through GravityBox and Xblast and it just won't change. I can change it to a different Xperia wallpaper but not my own. After Googleing it looks like it is quite common (although nothing I have come across before) but a full wipe seems to be the only way to fix it (and that seems hit and miss). If that's the only way I think I'll leave it for now.

Just remember to have a working backup and you'll be set. :)

Take a look at called XBatteryThemer, Serajr Xperia Xposed, Rootcloak, EXThemer & HandleExternalStorage (fixes the borked way in which KitKat handles SD Cards).

Yea got my nandroid ready. I guess if the worst happens I just boot it into recovery (if it will) and select restore.
Great, thanks for all that, have downloaded some and will have a play around with them.
