Root Xrecovery issue

i_rock69

Newbie
OK I used the flashtool to instal xrecovery. It created a folder on my phone.

Being the idiot I am I tried to install a new rom using the x10 recovery option not the xrecovery one. OK I learned from that duho.

So I thankfully had backed up everything with titanium backup. OK, so I reinstalled everything and decided to read everything asll over again.

On a youtube video they have xrecovery as an icon on the phone. I dont.

When I go into the xrecovery file on my phone I have an xrecovery folder with a backup that has a cache data nandroid and system. So somehow I got a back up.

the xrecovery 0.3 gbready file has 2 folders in it meta-inf and system,.

I cannot find a way to start xrecovery is basically what I am asking. No icon, no exe. file etc.

help!! thanks

I havent watched the video but I know xRec is not an app. To get into xRec, reboot the phone and as soon as u see the sony ericsson text appear, start pressing the back button and keep pressing it until xRec pops up. If ur boot animation comes up then either you waited too long to start pressing the button or you werent pressing it fast enough, press it like 2-3 times a second.

Ok i get Freexperia x10 recovery show up plus the boot options etc below.

Following the instructions i saw it said make sure you do a backup..check
Then factory reset(full wipe)
Then wipe cache.check
Then wipe Davoik Cache.check.

Then when I try to install custom zip (which is wolf_experia_6.0.0s.zip).........
I get the message E:Catnt mount /dev/block/macblk0p1(or /dev/block/mmcblk0)
(device or resource busy)
E:cant mount sdcard:wolf_experia_6.0.0szip
Installation aborted

This I read could be caused by not backing up in xrecovery.......yet it was the first thing i did.

Thanks again isnt technology supposed to make life easier? LOL

When u plug in ur phone to ur comp, does it recognize it? When its plugged in to ur pc, pull down the menu and do u see "usb debugging" and "turn on usb storage"?

Hi, yes I can connect to the Pc companion fine, and USB debugging and turn off USB storage are on the top left hand of the screen.

When I connect to ther flashtool I get USB debugging connected and USB connected

The only format option in xrecovery did not specify fat 32 just format.
Regardless I tried that, I cannot load a custom zip, nor can I restore any backups. I get the same message as above when I try anything.

Nowhere can I find any similar problems

I never ever ever suggest anyone format their SD card on their actual computer. It can cause problems.

If you want to format your SD card. Format from your phone or from a digital camera.

If you must format it on a computer (because you can't detect it anywhere else) then after formating it on a computer, format it on the actual phone (Settings->Privacy->Erase....factory default)

I have a feeling it has to do with where the files are located.

If you want to load a custom image, the image needs to be on the SD card and I suggest you put them in /xrecovery/backup (create the folder after connecting the phone to your PC via USB)

Make sure there are no spaces in any of the filenames. To simplify, no underscores or caps or extra periods either.

Why not put the file here - /xrecovery/backup/wolf6.zip

Try that out and check to see if gives any errors.

Ok thanks I will try that after work. I have a feeling that it something very simple.possibly something that I am not describing well or I have missed a step that is simple for you tech hounds

Thanks again.....

Very likely, next time around just take your time and make sure you dot all the I's and cross all the T's. I hope it works out for you man.

As for formatting sdcard on a comp...I've never heard that advice or symptom before. Formatting on a PC doesn't install any files on the card, it wipes it clean so when you do put it in your device it has a clean slate to work with. The device is gonna put the files in the same place no matter if it's used to format the card or the computer. But hey, different strokes for different folks.

What I did to help simplify locating files on my sdcard that I need to flash is made a folder called "Gingerbread"....all of the files that are GB related go into that folder that way when I got into xRec to locate a file, I know exactly where to go.

Well I think I am just going to give up for a while. Since I am not getting backups to restore either, it is starting to be a pain to keep reloading evertything 3 or 4 times a dy.

Yeah well bricked it and back to stock 2.1 . Doe sanyone have the step by step upgrade to GB 2.3.3 link. I have been om xda for ages and cannot find it. Everything but, Im sure it is there.

At this point, this would be my progression

1. Root 2.1 and install xRec and busybox

2. Download and install File Explorer and MyBackup*Root

3. Using File Explorer, navigate to /sdcard and make a folder called "Gingerbread"

4. Using your phone, download my battery theme (since it's easily accessible on this board and is a GB file). Using File Explorer, see if you can locate said file on your sdcard. (usually at /sdcard/downloads). If you can, proceed to the next step. If you can't, no sense in going any further.

5. Reboot into xRec and make a complete backup of your rom

6. Reboot and open the contacts app, press the menu button and make a backup of your contacts.

7. Using MyBackup*Root, backup your apps (apk's + data) and as little data as possible (bookmarks/sms/mms)

8. Update your phone to GB (either by using PC Companion, SEUS, or FlashTool)

9. Download ASTRO file manager and navigate to your Gingerbread folder just to make sure you can get around in there and that the file is still in there.

10. Root GB (making sure to have xRec and busybox) and then download and install MyBackup*Root and restore your apps (APK's ONLY!!!)

11. Using File Explorer, navigate to your gingerbread folder and make sure the battery theme folder is still there.

12. Using xRec make a complete backup of your rom.

13. Now you're ready to flash WB GB. Do that and then download and install MyBackup*Root and restore your apps again the same way.

14. Using File Explorer, make sure you can get to the gingerbread folder and locate the battery theme file.

15. If you can, continue with restoring (app data/data/contacts) via MyBackup*Root and the contacts app and enjoy your faster, smoother, more customizable x10!
