xScope, a multitouch pinch zoom browser

Yes. Next update. Sorry for that.
One thing I've noticed about the update is that, since you've added the speed-dial look for the home page, it grabs screenshots of each bookmark. That's nice and I like it except it saves those pictures and then appear in my gallery; not so nice. Can you add the .nomedia or whatever to that so to prevent that from happening?

Pitamakan,

Try this:

in xScope, Settings --> Viewport --> select Wide.

Thanks,

Gary

Though I'm still loving xScope, and am very happy with the way it renders most pages, there are definitely a few that have fairly major issues. One that I just encountered was the Google Groups site, where the messages themselves are hopelessly buried under other elements of the page.

Are there workarounds, or at least some hope for the future? I hate having to switch back and forth between browsers ...

Anyhow, thanks again for a great app!

Major update to 5.0 (Lite version will be compiled soon too)

1. Clicking the 'Star' in front of url address will pop up page related options, includig:
a. Share url
b. Share screenshot (why not?!)
c. Compact using google (good for heavy websites and serving as a proxy)
...
g. Save htm to local

2. File module overhaul
a. You can zip a folder or a file!
b. Send you file via email

3. Settings
a. Enable/disable swipes for nav, notification, and tabs.
b. Enable/disable pin-zoom

4. Primed for css styling

Thanks!

Asked this before, but no response...do I have to pay for each update? I have the stock Eris with the 1.5 version of xscope. It says there is an update but when I try, it asks for my credit card info in google checkout.

???

No you don't. Free for subsequent updates.
However if you migrate from 1.5 to 2.0, then you will need to pay for the app targeted only for 2.0+ android which supports multi-touch. Your old 1.5 xScope should work and free from updating but lacks multi-touch.
Hope this is clear. Thanks

Two things that I noticed on the new update: 1) when making a selection, an outline of the selected item is shown on the next screen. 2) the home screen, with the large icons & small text, the text is pink thereby hard to see.

Sorry about the pinky thing. Was testing styles. It will be back to normal next update.

Well I updated it and it still charged me another .99. What's wrong? I'm still only using 1.5 on the eris. I never upgraded to 2.0.

Quick Update:
1. Overhauled screenshot module so that it will not crash due to low memory caused by very large picture.
2. No more pink text

Again I love all the progress! Only things I can think of to mention are the dial-pad style homepages's screenshots and the password field issue again. The issue with the dial-pad's screenshots is that it does not seem to get screenshots to use for certain sites. CNN is one site that I can think of with this issue. The password field issue, which we've discussed before is that for, whatever reason, you can't view the password (nor the *'s either) because of, what I would consider, a mysterious white box seems to cover it up. I remember when this was brought up before that you found a discussion online where developers were talking about it and a possible fix. I don't know if you've already tried to fix it or if there isn't a fix but regardless I thought I'd mention it again. A site that I can think of that has this happen is here, Phandroid.

Keep up the good work!

iam very like this browser... very fast and compact for me... lot off extra function like sound button for scrolling function... hehehehee

I must be missing something very simple, but how do you update? I'm not receiving any notification from the market that a newer version is available (all my other apps work fine). Do I need to uninstall/reinstall, or is there a setting within the browser itself?

In market, search xScope. If click the one that you have installed. If there is an update, it will show 'Update' or else 'Installed'

Remove CNN (which is probably pre-loaded when you install) and add it back to the favorite list again. This is due to the redirection of certain websites.
For example, your favorite url, if pre-loaded, is CNN.com - Breaking News, U.S., World, Weather, Entertainment & Video News. But when you visit CNN.com - Breaking News, U.S., World, Weather, Entertainment & Video News, it redirect you to m.cnn.com, which is not the same as CNN.com - Breaking News, U.S., World, Weather, Entertainment & Video News hence no picture is taken for speed dial.
If you change your current user-agent to 'Computer' you won't be redirected and you should get screenshot as well.

Thanks for the tip xScope! I just re-favorited the sites and sure enough it worked. :)

I hope you have more updates to revamp the home page even more in the works! Being able to organize them and other features would be great and I know the masses would enjoy it.

Thanks. I will think a good solution for categorized favorites.

I'm loving the browser. Simple, fast, intuitive interface.
Q) running free version on Sprint Hero. Want to purchase but want to be sure it doesn't harm in any way the positive experience so far. Enhanced functions (open files, task mgmt?) can be turned on or off in menus? Open files applies to files downloaded from web? Or using browser to explore files on phone?
Q) Is it possible to add a back button for navigation (similar to forward button, just to its left, selectable in menu if you prefer it to be optional)? This would be nice for Hero users as our back button is a physical switch. Onscreen at top should give a nicer browsing experience. Thanks for the really great ap.

Thanks Bill
The enhanced functions will not degrade performance in anyways. In fact, they don't even increase size a bit.
The BACK button? We will think a way to implement that.
A few words for 1.5/1.6 users. The current version is about 4 updates behind. We are working on a lumpsum update lately.

Speaking of the "back" button ... I've noticed a change in recent versions of xScope that slows down my use of the browser.

Often my web browser use consists of my clicking links found in e-mails and RSS feeds; after I read the linked page I'll return to the other program. In the past, if only a single tab was open in xScope, I could just hit the back button to close the browser and return to the original app. Now, though, I have to make my way through the exit popup, which is a little irritating.

Don't get me wrong -- I love the exit popup overall, and the ability to long-press the back kay to exit multiple tabs and optionally kill the cache. That's a great feature. I just wish there were a way to skip that in situations like mine. Thanks.

I was playing with the lite version for a couple of days and was very impressed. I was just about to plunk down my hard earned 2.99 (a bargain at twice the price, but don't get any ideas) when the 2.1 update started to roll out. I'd like to hear from those who have 2.1 already on how xscope it better than the updated browser that supposedly has pinch to zoom etc. Is it compatible with 2.1? I don't have 2.1 yet, and yes I'll wait for the OTA, I'm not in a big hurry.

With the current update, only long press back button will bring up that dialog.

Thanks!

I like to hear it too.
My experience: not much. The stock browser has MT now which is very nice.
Run sunspider, xScope 22s vs stock 34s.
