YAAM : Development of an Alternative Market

Malgon

Lurker
Hi,

YAAM (Yet Another Android Market) is an alternative Android market project !

You can see here (YouTube - 4th video of YAAM), a video of the progress of Yaam.

Developped by Pixello Studio and eMee, YAAM involves 2 Andro/web developpers and 2 designers for already one month of developement

The purpose of this market is to offer a viable alternative to Android Market, while adding some interesting features and functionality that will never see the day on the Android Market, such as payment by Paypal/others instead of google checkout !
Allowing developers to better control their apps by removing text length, allowing more than 2 pictures, allowing developers to contact users that submited a comment, etc...
And the inscription of developers will be free of charge !

Here are some screens of the application : Index of /screens/yaam

Paid applications are managed this way : You have a YAAM account, you send money on this account (via paypal, allopass, etc...), and you use this money into the application, to buy applications. In that way, you can easily manage your consommation...
We are surely going to create an enterprise, to manage this money legally !

You can try the market using this apk : http://yaam.mobi/apk/yaam.apk It's normal there is just 2 applications in the market, it's a development/alpha version, just for testing purpose. If you don't want to create an account, you can use test account (username=test/password=test) :)
If an update is available, YAAM is able to update itself !

We've just started the website (Yaam | Index) and a web-market is already available ! (no design for the moment)

We are still thinking about opening the code to the community !

If you've questions, just ask. Remember it's an alpha version, every bug report, idea or felicitation will be welcome ;)

Hmm, so we give you money on an experimental, alpha program, which could close at any notice.. That we would then buy apps which we could just buy directly on the android marketplace...

For some reason, I think I'm going to have to pass...

Sorry, but you HAVE NOT to give us money. As it's a beta, testing applications are free, and I was not here to ask you buying any application, but to try YAAM market...

Anyway french forums are more welcome, and an official beta is going to be opened in the week.

which we could just buy directly on the android marketplace
Yes, but this is the goal of YAAM, an alternative market....

Except of course for the people in countries which don't have paid apps available yet. Or for free apps which aren't available in their country. Or for apps that the standard Market rejects. Or for people who can't get or don't want a google checkout account.

There's lots of reasons for alternative markets

Just a small message to say that projet is near the official release.

There is a lot of changes since my first post, website is finished (and designed) : Yaam | Index
Developers have started adding their applications, but only french developers, so english what are you waiting for ? :D

I am all in with support! Ill test and sign up when the system is live and running. More choice is better. After all choice is what Linux users love the most.

The only problem I see with this alternative market is getting the apps that are already out on it. This would mean contacting every developer.
