Help Yahoo and IMAP email not consistant receiving notifications

joeyh3

Lurker
I got my Mesmerize about a week and a half ago. I have three email accounts setup on it - a GMail account (using the GMail app), a Yahoo account (using the Yahoo Mail app), and an IMAP account for school (using the mail app).

GMail seems to be working fine, however, both the Yahoo and IMAP accounts don't always notify me when I get new emails. If I open the app for either IMAP or Yahoo, I'll see some messages there, but I didn't get any notifications for them.

So far, I've tried:

- Updating the app (for Yahoo only).
- Removing and re-adding the account (for Yahoo only).
- Disabling WiFi.
- Asking it really nicely to let me know when I have new email.
- Restarting the phone.
- Removing the battery.
- Ignoring its antics in a hope that it would get bored and start behaving.
- Changing the account passwords.
- Threating to leave it for a Blackberry.
- Unchecking the Yahoo/mail apps in Advanced Task Killer so they'll always be running.
- Manually killing the app in task manager and restarting it.

And all the above haven't solved my issues. What should I do next to try to get my notifications working? If this is a known glitch/problem, where is the glitch occurring exactly? Is it with the phone? Android 2.1? US Cellular? Android in general?

Remove your Advance Task Killer application (check other threads on what this is bad for your phone). Plus the Mesmerize has a pre-loaded app manager so your overlapping the "task killing" feature.

As far as your 3 email accounts using 3 different applications... you can set up all 3 using the stock Mesmerize email application. Just disable the notifications in the Gmail app and the Yahoo app.

For Yahoo, they really want you to pay for their premium service to have the mobile server settings, especially on a competitors device (to use with the stock email app instead of the yahoo mail app itself)

OR :) you can use these to set up your Yahoo Mail with the stock email application... I found these on this forum...

Select NEW ACCOUNT and follow the below info:
Select “other (POP3/IMAP)”
MANUAL SET UP
Incoming Settings:
Protocol: IMAP
Email Address: Email Address
User Name: Email Address
Password: enter your password
IMAP Server: imap.n.mail.yahoo.com
Security type: none
Server Port: 143
PUSH NEXT
Outgoing Settings:
Username: Email address
Password: enter your password
SMTP Server: smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com
Security type: None
Server port: 587
PUSH NEXT (it will verify account)
Account Name: Yahoo
PUSH FINISH SET UP – and you’re good to go!
Also, where did you get your server settings for your school? If they are correct, it should work with the stock email app.

Hope that helps. Let me know if you have questions.

The stock email app for Yahoo and Android email are both flaming piles of poo, IMO.

I highly recommend K9 mail in the market. Its free, and it works.
