Yahoo emails

Hi, i've just moved to a Samsung Galaxy S3 (ICS) from a Blackberry and i'm really struggling with emails.

I have used a yahoo.co.uk account for years and don't really want to change everything over to Gmail, but i'm getting increasingly frustrated with the way email accounts seem to work.

I have 2 yahoo email accounts successfully set up using POP and although the emails are no way as timely and consistent as my old Blackberry, it seems to work OK. My problem is deleting them!

The settings give me an option to show 25 to 200 or 'total' recent messages which is fine, but why oh why do i receive old messages through every time i delete an email?

Typically i'll receive a 'sales' email have a quick look and then want to delete, but when i do, a few minutes later the phone beeps again and an old message from 3 weeks ago pops in as a 'new' unread message.

It seems that the phone is always trying to keep 50 messages in, so when you delete the latest message, it just fills the space with an old one which fools you into thinking you have another new email!

The same thing happens when i delete email using the web - minutes later by phone goes crazy and fills with older messages.

Surely this isn't a good thing is it?
I would very much appreciate any help you can give me. As i said, i am very new to Android, so i'm hoping that there is an easy solution, but i have searched around and can't find anything yet.

Thanks for the advice. I might give it a go.
I was initially put off using the app because i heard it was very unreliable and didn't properly push emails - you have to open the app and refresh to see any new emails. To me that is pointless, i want emails to alert me when they arrive and save checking on the off-chance.
I might however be wrong, so i'll give it a go.

Still if anyone knows of a better solution, i'd love to hear!
Thanks

I have been using Yahoo in the standard mail app on five different devices and three generations of android. I have never had this issue. The only difference is I use IMAP instead of POP. Switch to IMAP. It is A better protocol.
