Help Yahoo mail

Why can't I setup my yahoo email on the xperia x10? I have tried several different things but it will not go. It first says that not all yahoo accounts are supported, then it will pop up saying that I have an invalid username or password. I know the entries are correct. HELP!!!

Hi, this is what I did to get it to work

On your computer
Step:
1) Log-in to your yahoo mail
2) Click 'options' on the upper right hand corner, then click 'more options'
3) Click 'Accounts' on the left hand side of the screen.
4) Click 'Add or edit an account'
5) Click 'Account Information'
6) Re enter your password
7) At the bottom of the page click 'Set language, site and time zone'
8) Choose 'Yahoo! Asia' as your Regional Site and Language and save it.
(Don't worry your yahoo mail will still be in English. And Yahoo Asia seems to offer POP3 for free)

Now go back to step 2.
Click 'POP & forwarding'
Then click 'Set up or edit POP & Forwarding'

There you have it. You will find all the necessary settings you need when you click on 'POP Settings'

On your phone:
Server Settings
Incoming Mail Server (POP3): pop.mail.yahoo.com
Use SSL, port: 995

Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): smtp.mail.yahoo.com
Use SSL, port: 465, use authentication

Account Name/Username: youruserid@yahoo.com
Email address: youruserid@yahoo.com
Password: Your Yahoo! Mail password

Or you can download the Yahoo! Mail app from the Android Market

You can only use a gmail account so if you dont have one make one and i dont know a way around it.It suck BIG HAIRY BALLS but what ever ive had my yahoo for 6 years so i was really pissed now i have to manage 2 and i hate doing it so much.

? I'm using a yahoo account and it works fine. For market and saving contacts you need a gmail but for just emails yahoo works.
Guess you got lucky maybe it just happens to AT&T users but theirs a lot of us who couldn't use anything but a gmail account to setup some of the phones stuff.

EDIT also when you try to setup the email threw facetime (most likely what sweetheart was trying to do) it wouldn't allow a yahoo account for the 2 phones i have.

I did set up a yahoo account and a Hotmail account on my phone just to prove that I could but I did use my K-9 mail app cos I don't like the stock email application. They both worked fine altho I have since deleted them when I ran a repair and never bothered reinstalling them.

As you say, certain phone functions which are Google based require you to have a Gmail account (not that I use mine for anything other than this function).

I managed to get my yahoo set up on the stock email app but if your having issues it might be worth trying a yahoo mail app

Yeah, my yahoo email account doesnt work either. It's really disappointing because it's the only email I really use. But I downloaded an app called Maildroid and it's awesome. It even notifies me when I get a new email.

Its probably because of AT&T im not on their stock ROM anymore so it might work for me but my ROM doesn't have that stock email app anyway.Plus once i made my gmail account google took the liberty and changed most of my things to the gmail account like youtube and a couple of forums im on and who knows what else.

Hello All,

I apologize ahead of time for the long post.

I am new to this forum and had similar problems accessing Yahoo! Mail with the pre-installed email client on my X10a 1.6 android. I tried the POP Asia thing which didn't work well for me. I also tried another method where I set up the account manually using IMAP with certain settings for the incoming and out going servers, but I couldn't access the email when WIFI was on, it only worked on 3g. I got an invalid username and password.

But to my surprise I found the answer on the Yahoo! Mail for Android site. Since At&t blocks 3rd party app installs I couldn't install the mobile email app but they gave instructions to set up IMAP. The settings they gave allowed me to get my email on 3g or WIFI. Here are their instructions. Do the manual setup.

"IMAP is another way you can get Yahoo! Mail on your phone. Using IMAP you can download messages with your mobile client, so you can access your mail even when not connected to the mobile Internet.

How to set up Yahoo! Mail with your mobile client using IMAP
On your phone, press < Home >, then open the Email application.
On the 'Your accounts' page, select Next to get started with setup.
Enter your full Yahoo! address and password, then select Next.
On the next screen, you can give the account a nickname and choose the name to display on your outgoing messages. Tap Done.

If prompted, supply the following information:
Incoming Server - imap.mail.yahoo.com
Outgoing Server - smtp.mail.yahoo.com
Incoming Port - 993 (requires SSL)
Outgoing Port - 465 (requires SSL)
Username: full email address (bill@yahoo.com)
Password: is the password you login to Yahoo! with"

Hope this helps. Not sure if it works in other countries but it worked in the USA.
