So, there was a little miscommunication with what Google had written on their website regarding manually flashing the Android N developer preview.
Previously, it was assumed that those who manually flashed the developer preview could not get OTA updates to future Android N preview builds. However, Google has cleared some things up and you can still get those OTA updates. However, you will need to enroll in the Android Beta Program after(or before) you manually install those Android N factory images to your device.
