Help Yet another batter help request

pfp_az

Newbie
This morning I unplugged my phone from the charger (100%), locked the screen and placed it in my pocket. It stayed there till almost 4 hours later when I needed to use it. I was shocked to see that the battery was now at 73%.

27% gone in 4 hours with no user interaction? This seems really high. First let me ask... Am I crazy and should be thanking my lucky stars that the phone will last roughly 14 hours as a paperweight?

A couple things to note: All three location services settings are off, Wifi is on during sleep, for all but about .5 hours I have been at locations with good wifi signals.

I see most the usage went to Android System but I've no idea what that is (at least not when I also see Android OS too). I've read many comments about wake locks but am not really sure what they mean or how to manage them, 3420 sure seems like alot of them though. what's with the gravity, gyroscope and light readings?

I would greatly appreciate any help in understanding this and how I can maximize my battery life.

Try going into Settings > Developer options > Show CPU Usage and find out which application is eating up the processor.

Also check out this thread as it somewhat relates to your high "gravity" sensor value: [Q] what is Gsiff_daemon and why is it destroying my battery? - xda-developers

tl;dr - It sounds to me like your motion sensor; Try turning screen rotation and any "motion" options off.

So I read through that entire thread - very interesting and a bit disturbing too. This does appear to be the issue I'm having but it appears the phone needs to be rooted to "fix" it. I'll try disabling all motion related settings.

I wonder is Tasker can monitor for and kill the rogue gsiff_daemon process?

After disabling all motion related settings I have not seen this issue again, yet. hopefully it stays that way. At the very least I at least know what to look for now.

Try putting your settings back to the way they were now. If you start losing battery quickly again, do a battery pull with the phone on. Then power up. For some reason it seems to work and alleviate the "Android System" from draining battery.

Yesterday I remembered that this issue required rooting to truly fix and I had already rooted to fix the maps battery drain issue. I went ahead and applied the fix for this as well and saw my best batter day yet even with very heavy use (for me).
