You can change Android's encryption password without changing the lock screen password with root

By default, Android's encryption password is tied to your lock screen pin code/password and this generally means your encryption password isn't as secure as it should be (since most people generally use a short pin code or password).

However, Mishaal of XDA-Developers has discovered a way to change Android's encryption password without having to change the lock screen password. You just need root access to pull it off.
