BTW, this thread placed in this forum seems self-defeating here, since if a person has no intent on rooting, they would probably not come to a root forum in the first place. The premise of the thread is if you are going to or not. Seems logical to be where the thread originally was.

I asked the mod that moved it to move it back.

Btw, I rooted last night.

Not sure yet. I'm new to Android (about 3 days young) and I need to do some more research on rooting. I still don't 100% know what the pros and cons of rooting is.

I will root when I am sure I am not returning the phone (getting a replacement next week) and when there is an unroot without flashing available. There is now a quick root without flashing and the author will do the unroot within the next couple of weeks. See the XDA Developers forum for the progress on this.

The why is not clear - Titanium Backup is probably the main reason.
Other root apps are not so compelling, although I've looked at avast mobile for the theft protection.
I keep on looking for root app to push it over the edge for me.

I rooted for Titanium Backup and AdFree, but also got rid of the VZW ongoing wifi notification, added a wifi toggle to the notification bar, got rid of the location services icon, added Google Wallet, and added Beats Audio. I'll probably upgrade to Jelly Bean in the not-too-distant future.

I didn't realize just how much AdFree was blocking on my DX. That's the main thing pushing me to root. Plus, everything else you listed. I want my SIII to be like yours. Guess I better get to work!

A good reason to root is so you can use a firewall, such as Droidwall. Then you don't have to worry about the permissions on apps you install. If a third party keyboard tries to 'phone home' with recorded keytaps, it can't.

Oh, the custom mods you can install...

I love my circle battery indicator in my notification bar with the percentage in the middle.

But for me the biggest reason for rooting is so I can have that cool CRT television effect when I send my phone to sleep :)

I've rooted and ROM'ed my previous 2 phones, and will do the same with this one. I have everything downloaded at this time to root, but right now have decided not to, I will soon though. There are several apps that I like that require root, and I will use a ROM as soon as 4.1 ROMs come out at the latest. There is a problem that appears to have happened to a few people where they lose their IMEI, and I have a warranty through Best Buy so I'm not really worried about that, just letting people know before they root. Supposedly the newest ota may have fixed it but no one is sure.
