Aw man I miss my Elite now:( you all are a pretty awesome community. I really enjoyed being here since the very take off of development on this phone. It's come an extremely long way especially for such little attention. There's some great devs here. Massive props to you phenomX, keep it happenin. I unfortunately left my Elite in some stoners car during a hitchhiking trip of mine and now I'm stuck with the LG motion that has a locked boot loader, so the only way to root is through a computer and the libraries have administrator locks that don't allow installing anything... So no moding for me for a while:( Boo-hoo-hoo. Ahh well. Enjoy what you got guys :) Peace

:D
Right... Now watch him show up here and be like, "Dude, I remember you, yeah I got your phone!"

That's alright, Glenwood Springs dude, I know where you work. LOL...... Just kidding, I just kinda let it go. Wasn't his fault.

A good way to get around that is to install the files onto a USB flash drive then just plug it into the computer and load em up that way lol.

Trust me, I've already attempted that man. Its a complete block from installing anything. I've tried going into edit the registrar and don't know what I'm doing.

Do they have a bootstrap init2 recovery yet?

Everything is actually done kind of weird over here. Were not using bootstrap, but some kind of bootloader workaround program (lte2 recovery) that uses something called "Loki" to get around the locked boot loader. It was originally created to exploit the galaxy s3/4 locked bootloader. However its not technically an official recovery on the recovery partition...or something, i don't know, it's bloody confusing.

Edit: It is an init 2 type of recovery

My thinking is that...The method they have for root, they say HAS to utilize a computer. However all it is friggin doing is pushing files to specified directories (su binary) via adb. There was an old method to just push those files to their location via terminal emulator on the phone without need for adb. I don't see why i can't just do that, but i can't find those terminal commands in all this mess.

Once you have root you should be able to do it via terminal with the cp command to xbin then chmod the permissions and be good.

That's actually my only issue is obtaining root without computer access, i can do the rest on the phone. I think a friend is going to let me use theirs. I just don't see how this phone had come so far along without someone figuring out an alternate rooting method via apk or terminal script or something.

---oh yea, I forgot about the SU command in terminal, that explains a bit. It's been a while

Yeah something like that, it all comes down to the bootloader being locked. It's like a series of key signatures that are verified upon boot. It goes through something like three keys and then goes to something called aboot and apparently aboot verifies that all the keys checked in correctly and then aboot boots the kernel and everything. That's my very vague understanding of what's going on

Exactly. Hence the need for a bootstrap or hijack recovery that allows basically a second boot for a custom recovery. When I had my DX we were limited because even with a bootstrap we couldn't have custom kernels. :(

Right, don't get me wrong, we have a recovery and roms all the way up to CM10 and stuff. I was just hoping for a root method I could accomplish from the phone. There's actually good developers over here such as playfulgod. It seems like they just took to the first workable option for rooting and never revised it or tried to improve it, but instead focused more on getting custom roms rolling. Which is cool, but makes the phones rooting and recovery methods feel way behind where it is with Rom development.

One click root is almost a requirement for me when/if I ever look at new hardware

Yeah but let's be honest a lot of rooted users have no idea what exploit was used, how su works, what's safe to edit, delete or theme. A significant amount of people don't even know basic adb commands.

Very true, myself I have at very least a working knowledge of these things and what I can and cannot do.
