Help "You have no devices" error message

I bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 for my wife and I pre-installed some apps that I thought she would like. The problem is that I did this from MY laptop. Now, when she goes to Google Play on HER laptop, her tablet is not recognized; she gets the error message "you have no devices". I would like to "unlink"? is that the right word? I would like to unlink her tablet from my computer, or vise versa.

How would I do this?

She should log on with the same account you used to source the apps. That account should be the primary account for the tab and be set to sync with Google

Easiest is to download the apps directly from the tablet itself. Otherwise use the" send to device" from your laptop

Bosbouer,

She can't log in with my account on HER computer. I want her to have her tablet recognized on her computer, which it is not. It is frustrating that her tablet is not recognized on her own computer.

I plan on getting a Tab 3 as soon as they are released which will cause problems of its own if HER Tab 2 is recognized on my computer, then I start using my new Tab 3, I could see things really getting screwed up.

What do people do when they have a tablet which their computer recognizes, and they get a new computer? There must be some way to have the tablet no longer recognize the old computer and start recognizing the new one.

Jackson,

Most people would create individual Google accounts which would be used on their individual pc's, laptops, tablets and cellular phones

Spikes,

Sorry for being as dumb as a brick, but if we create separate accounts for me and my wife is it too late to have her laptop recognize her tablet? Can I delete her tablet from my devices?

This tablet stuff is totally new to me.

Thanks for all your help,

Jackson

Hi Jackson,

Yes you can still fix it, (on the laptop create the Google account if you have not already done so)on the tablet in settings>accounts and sync, add her new account and set as default for sync THEN delete the previous unwanted account from the device. Restart the device and you should be ok.

Spikes,

I did what you suggested and it worked! We set up 2 separate Google accounts and then I deleted my account from the tablet, and that worked. Now, when she is on HER laptop and goes to Google Play, it actually sees her tablet and she can install apps from her laptop onto her tablet.

When she goes to Google Play and clicks on "My Android Apps", only the ones that she installed from HER laptop are shown, not the ones that I installed from MY laptop which is no big deal.

Now, the only issue that remains is that when I go to Google Play on MY laptop, her tablet is still listed as my device. Is there a way to delete her tablet from my devices?

Thanks again for all you patience and help,

Jackson

Open the Play Store from your PC
Go to Options (right upper corner, a gear icon) and select the option that appear.
Click on Devices tab, and untick the devices that you don't wish to see

Unfortunately you cant really remove it but you can hide it so ot doesn't appear anymore. I had the same issue not too long ago

Hi Jackson,

Glad you got it sorted out. Gandres's work around works fine. I deleted my Google account completely (for another reason), when reinstated it no longer showed old devices.

Spikes,

At first I thought I would just delete my Google account and open a new one. Then I saw what was going to go bye bye. Most stuff didn't apply to me or bother me, but MY YOUTUBE SUBSCRIPTIONS, AND VIDEOS? I forgot that Google bought YouTube a while ago. Never mind. Still a good thing to know if I need to do it at some point in the future.

Gandres,

I checked on the option that you suggested and finally decided that since I could give my wife's tablet a name, I would just do that and not be too hung up on the idea that it is showing as one of my devices. Also good to know in case we get rid of her tablet at some time in the future.

Thanks to the both of you for helping me through the tablet learning curve.

That will be an issue yes. I prefer not to link valuable stuff to my Gmail account
:)
Also note that I re-instated my existing Gmail account and did not create a new one
