Can anyone help me get me HTC Desire to play youtube videos. Its my first droid phone so its all new.

depends how your trying to play them? what firmware are you on?
if you are on android 2.1 then you wont be able to play youtube or any other vids through your net browser as there is no support for flash.
if you are on android 2.2 then you should be able to play them no problem.
Failing that download the youtube app from the market (yes its free) and watch them via that.
