Also, the "people" app does have a search option. You won't find it in the menu, but if you press the search key while in "people" it brings up the "search people" interface, making the separate "search people" app redundant IMO. Someone will probably tell me this was in the manual, but it took me forever to stumble on it (while cursing HTC for their stupidity in making these two separate programs...).

Get widgetsoid. It has the most customisation of any widgets program I've used and its free. You can put a switch for any setting (3g, wi-fi, autolock, autorotate), shortcuts to apps and even battery/ram/rom capacities. You can make the widgets any shape from 5*1 to 1*5. There is also the option to have more switches than homscreen spaces. For example, a launcher with a 4*4 screen could still fit 6 switches on one row.
If I had known about this widget I would have saved hours and hours of exploring the settings menu and hours of battery life.
