This is clothing, but some mfg do put different articles in retail stores.
The Brother Sewing machine might have been made especially for big box stores rather than a dealer (not necessarily bad, usually works quite well, but the ads for some are not totally true. Same for fabric. A mill will put out 2 different lines for big box and specialty shops. It might apply to tools, linens and some electronics - the ad is partially true - meaning the words might not claim same as, but the implication is.

You are getting a fairly decent product for a lower price which isn't all bad, but misleading you about a bargain is.

I bought some Levi's from Amazon and they are thinner material than the ones from the department store.

Similar situation: I ordered a certain variety of Arm & Hammer cat litter from Amazon--a variety I've used for years, but always purchased from supermarkets--and it was *AWFUL*. It definitely was not the same as that same variety purchased locally.

interesting..

I do think that is true to some extent.
but not all the products in the discounter is "fake".

I have purchased some items in the discount shops... and are exactly what I have seen in the full retail shops.

A lot of apparel that's made and is meant for the western stores, never actually leaves China and SE Asia. See it all over the place, brands like Sears, Polo Ralph Lauren, Marks & Spencer, Zara, H&M, C&A, Debenhams, Burton, Topman, Brooks Brothers, Banana Republic, Gap, etc, much of it is seconds, end of lines, and excess production, sometimes with the tags cut-out or defaced with marker pen. I bought a load of new shirts this summer when i was in Hong Kong, for about a tenth what they would retail for in a European department store.

Probably 99.9% of the clothing and footwear that we all wear was made in China, Bangladesh, India, Cambodia, Vietnam, etc.
