New Avid 589 phone. Use Android Auto all the time. This error message appears when android auto says it requires an update. Suggestions?

your device runs on android go which is different than the normal android os. its probably why your phone is not compatible with android auto. i would return the phone and get a different one that does not run android go.

Thanks and you are correct. I checked with Consumer Cellular and they confirmed that Android Auto won't run on the phone. I'm returning it in favor of their second cheapest smart phone from Motorola. I only use the cell phone in the car so there is no point in having a phone that doesn't do that properly. Thanks again.

Download the other version of the app. I used to do it in Google Play but I can't now. I don't know why. Maybe they just remove this function but I think you should try this on your smartphone. If it's impossible you can use unofficial site. I know that it is not very properly but it helps when I really need its help.

But the problem is that the op uses a phone that runs on the Android Go. It's different than normal Android phones.
