Your Music Player?

Google Music is awesome, not sure why you don't like it.
1. the sorting is absolutely horrid. I dont want My Library with all my songs on 1 list. There needs to be better sorting (mainly a "Folders" tab along side Artists, Albums etc. like found in Samsung phones). Sometimes I want to only play 1 type of genre, and let the songs shuffle within that folder. Cant seem to do that here.

2. I'd like my songs to be sorted by artist first, not the song name (Songs tab).
If i choose Artists tab, i get this stupid tile format, (why can't I have a list here?)

3. I dont like how it "makes its own playlist".
ex. If i start a song from My Library, once in the music player, at the top right, I have the ability to go into "my list". once in that list... I'm no longer in "My Library". I'm in this list where all my songs are "queued". I absolutely think this is useless, why cant it shuffle through my library like a normal player?

4. where the hell is the music auto shut off option???
thats an easy enough function to add in, and a very useful one at that.

The Gnexus didnt come with a player and like you i dont like Google play music i use Music folder player its free and there a paid version

If you download Google Music, it should find any media you have on the phone. You also have the option to upload your music to their servers to stream from the cloud on up to 10 devices, or pay a monthly subscription for their all access which is similar to spotify. However playing local media or streaming your uploaded songs is free. They do have to be uploaded from a computer though using their program which you get from their website for free.

Is this about giving your music library to Google, which can then be available to purchase on Google Play store. Is this at least a possibility?
Or have I been watching too many Matrix movies?

I used to have that issue also, but you can Edit the song/album info on your PC so it is all organized, then it syncs with your phone obviously.

I wish you could edit it on the phone app but I don't think you can, has to be PC

I have a similar problem with PowerAmp, maybe more about me:)
I have all my music that I want to upload to my N4 in a folder on computer.
I hooked up the N4, deleted all music files and then loaded the folder back on. When i asked Poweramp to search for music, everything came up twice.
Of course means much more space used on the storeage. when I search with file explore, it shows only single entries.
I tried just deleting manually the extra folders, but Poweramp tells me that there are "too many missing files" and from there on won't play anything.
Help! What am I doing wrong?:o

This happens (on the N5 anyway) because PowerAMP sees the symlinks that Android uses as if they were separate file systems. Android uses multiple redundant symlinks to point to the same set of internal memory (SDCARD) folders.

Go into PowerAMP and go to settings, Folders and Library, Music Folders. Make sure only one folder or set folders in one of the redundant trees it offers is selected, then rescan.

You'll see the symlinks if you use a file manager-- several different paths that all lead to the same set of folders. PowerAmp doesn't realize they are the same folders.

In my opinion it also desperately needs a "sort by" function. I use iTunes on my PC and it automatically uploads new songs from there to Google but with podcasts there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to how they are organised. If I could click something to sort them by upload date it would make finding the latest edition of a podcast so much easier. It's almost impossible to find them at the moment!

You can make your own playlists and that can serve the purpose of folders that you can shuffle within. My library is quite large and has several different types of music and that's how I get it done. I agree that it's dumb that it's not originally sorted by artist when you load it though.

I haven't seen any proof that Google keeps your music and resells them. I've uploaded several items that weren't on Google Play when they were uploaded and can't get them to come up in a search for them. However I do know that when you upload a song, it checks it against it's database of music and if it finds a match, it creates a link in your library to their version and discards your upload in order to save space. If it isn't in their library, or your uploaded track differs somehow from theirs, they use the one you uploaded for your library.

Many thanks, I deleted everything including PA app. started again using your advice. First time I scanned I got the same problem, so I scanned again and everything came out perfect. Guess I just left both music folders ticked before.

There are 2 that I have liked. Poweramo and maven. I think maven sounds better but poweramp is the only app that has robust working BT abilities. I use it primarily for my car. I want the player to start up and play automatically when I turn on my car. No fiddling of the phone in any way. Not even taking it out of my pocket. I do this with tasker and poweramp. Poweramp is the only one I have successfully auto start and resume with tasker. If I didn't need that I would go with maven.

One question I'd like to know. I assume if I buy music from Google Music that there is an easy way to download it to my computer or phone or both. Is this a correct assumption?

In the past I have bought most of my music on my computer and that will probably still be true. Although I buy odds and ends all over from places like CD Baby, Bandcamp, small labels, the bulk of my digital music buying has been from Amazon which has a nicely optimized system for downloading your purchases as well as storing them in the cloud. I'm wondering if, if I like Google Music, I would consider moving my purchasing there.

You can download to both, but downloading to the phone via the app stores it in cache as an unusable file otherwise. It also bloats your nandroid backups. You can download to your computer via the website as an actual mp3, but they have a strict limit how many times you're allowed to do that per song (twice). This is obviously to curb piracy. However downloading to the phone can be done as many times as you like, though they restrict you to 10 devices per account. You can change which devices are active on it though whenever you want.

Yes, I would expect the download limit. I've never needed to download a file more than once as I have extensive archiving procedures. I would also probably only download to phone on whim if I knew I were doing to a no reception area. More often,I would transfer files from mt computer using MTP. And I never include stored media in Nandroid Backups.

Thanks for the info. Planning on finally giving Google Music a try.

I recently have switched to Google Play Music after receiving my Nexus 5 and signing up for the free trial. I love it, I can find most of the music I like on there, and I don't even need to download them and take up space! I also like the UI it reminds me of MIUI. Plus, as mentioned above, you can upload your personal music for those you can't find in the store.

But my other favorites are 1) Zplayer, because the interface is beautiful and it has a bass booster, EQ, and virtualizer that work really well. 2) PlayerPro. It's not free, but it has a ton of features and skins. It's mainly for audio junkies who like to tweak their settings to make it sound just right (in their mind)

I use play music too. It doesn't require much CPU and it rarely crashes. I use it in a combo with Volume Control+ so I can quickly change sound profiles on my cell phone and control the volume using different sources.

I have used the PlayerPro Music Player by BlastOn for years. It does everything I need it to and it has some nice widgets with good functionality. Paid app, though.
