Help Youtube Woes

hi everyone, I've just purchased my first tablet and trying to browse thru the youtube app, however I've tried to watch ordinary videos and I'm getting a message saying "not compatable " and saying my account isn't linked and how to make a channel ?!

I can view movies fine through the browser using the mobile site however I'd like to use the app without having to create an account in YouTube ? I've logged into my gmail account and downloaded all the updates fine. So I can't understand what else I can do ?

If you open the youtube app, hit settings (the 3 lines on the top left of the page), is your gmail account shown at the top of the pullout? If no, what's displayed?
 
Hello ! Many thanks for speedy reply ! Typically I managed to get it to take a screenshot of what was showing in the YouTube window but I can't get it to take another one of what is in settings !Anyway after going yo settings my gmail account details are not showing all that shows is General Connected TV Search Captions and About.

Exit youtube and try Clearing the cache and data by heading to Settings -> Apps -> Youtube -> Clear Cache and Data.

Open the youtube app again, does it ask you if you want to sign in to an account?
