Root Z4Root and Astro

So I have spent the last month reading about rooting, romming etc. Looks cool, this place is a lot of help. Lots of cool people it seems.
I thought I would root today.
Downloaded Z4root (1.3.0). Copied it to my sd card. Started up Astro and lead it to the zip file. Held my finger on the zip file and my only choices are 'Details, Open As, Edit, Send and Extract" so I chose Extract. Put it in a new directory. After unzipping I open the new directory and there are files and directories inside that. 'AndroidManifest, Classes, Lib, Meta-INF, res and resources. Holding my finger on each one of those I am not getting the choice to install anything. I have searched the internet for a 'apk' file for Z4Root and downloaded a couple but once they are unzipped none of them have a 'apk' file, they are all just as described above.
Wanna help a noob? :D

Hello Bob and welcome to the forums. It sounds like the browser you are downloading the apk with may be renaming the apk to .zip for you. Download the file from the link below and if the resulting file is not "z4root1.1.0.apk" then you can just rename the .zip at the end to .apk OR try downloading with a different browser.

Thanks GMB,

Well, I downloaded the file from your link. It kept the '.apk' extension but I had the same result when copying it to my sd card.
I then used another pc with WinXP and re-downloaded the file from your link. It too kept the .apk. extension intact but I had the same result. Astro only lets me 'Details, Open As, Edit, Send and Extract'.
Do I need the 'full' version of Astro perhaps?

Thanks again for your time.

Rather than long pressing the file and selecting from the options, just quickly tap the z4root.apk and select "Open App Manager" followed by selecting "Install"

Thanks GMB,

I downloaded 'App Installer'. It found the previous Z4Root apk file on my phone that Astro refused to install and installed it with no problem.
We have Root! :)

Thanks for your time!
