Deleted Messages Not of My Doing

Greetings, Desperate for help to retrieve 'lost' messages (going back some years) from a few close contacts (husband as well) which have disappeared from my phone. All have suddenly disappeared from early this year, some March, some May and one since early June. This is NOT of my doing and I have spent 2 weeks and countless hours with Samsung tech help seeking assistance. All this 'seemed' to happen about the time of the last update to my phone. The 'roundabout' you get from Samsung is frustrating to say the least. None of my phone settings are activated to mass delete messages in this way. Any help please???

Help Keypress sound issue

Volume on keypress adjustment doesn't work. When I try to adjust the slider from default to anywhere between 1-100% volume, it always sounds the same on my Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. Only way I can change the keyboard keypress volume is by changing system volume...

It's not only happening on S22 series, I've had the same issue on all Samsung phones! Samsung says that it's an issue form Google's side, OK and I've asked them what I should do as an user.

Help LG125DL and the Apple 4 watch

Writing to inquire...
Was recently given the Apple 4 watch and have read from multiple sources that the watch can pair with other phones. Have the LG125DL and would ask is there "best of class" in seeking such guidance. Have TextFree on the flip phone and want to explore all of the features I can use on the watch
Additionally, would ask if such expertise exists within Android Forums.

It's curtains

My friend got some alleged blackout drapes from Walmart. They weren't really expensive, about 13 bucks plus tax, and about the same amount for the tension rod. After another 10 bucks give or take for a multiscrewdriver and a claw hammer, it was about $39. That would be fine except the whole thing bites. The drapes aren't really blackouts, more or less see through, and the tension rod is almost useless. The only reason this contraption is still up there is the hook which is barely hanging on in the drywall. Why does anybody bother with Walmart? They're the worst. Anyway, you're probably wondering why nobody used the curtain rod. That's easy: there is none. Somebody suggested getting real blackouts (if those are even available) and just nailing them to the wall. It couldn't be much lousier than the current situation. Is there any recourse?

Help Help with Google Family Link parental controls

Hi, I'm trying to install parental controls on my child's phone and it's not working. I tried on 2 different devices - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and Galaxy S6. Yup these are quite old devices, but are both running at least Android 7.0 which is supported by Google Family Link. However, each time after I go through the following screens
  1. Android settings - Select "Google"
  2. Google Settings - Select "Parental controls"
  3. Set up parental controls - click "Get started"
  4. Who will be using this device? Select "Child or teenager"
  5. Next steps - Click "Next"
On the Note 8, it just hangs there with the progress spinner, and after a while, it shows "Something went wrong". On the S6, it just goes back to step 2 after 1-2s.
I tested on a newer device (Samsung A12) and it's able to proceed to the next page, which is to select the child's Google account.

Both phones are running the latest firmware and have all apps updated to the latest versions. Any ideas what is wrong?

Where Are These Setting On Galaxy J2?

I have these settings on my main LG K20 phone to reduce battery depletion but I can't find their equivalent settings on my travel Galaxy J2 (there aren't any "three dots")

Settings Location [three dots] Scanning:
Wi-Fi Scanning = OFF
Bluetooth Scanning = OFF

Settings Wi-Fi [three dots] Advanced Wi-Fi:
Keep Wi-Fi on when screen is off = Only when plugged in
(I know there is some difference of opinion about the trade-off value of this third setting)

Can someone tell me where to find them on the Galaxy J2?

Has voice to text actually become less intuitive?

So this has been a thing for me for quite awhile, I just haven't sought out an answer or fix until now.
As those of you around my age(50s) recall, voice to text used to be very inaccurate when that technology was in it's infancy but slowly became more accurate as time went on. At some point in the last 2-3 years it's started becoming less accurate again, for me at least. I'm having to go back and fix mis-spellings alot more often that I used to. I often see words spelled correctly after I say them only to watch the app change it to some other word. Sometimes to a word that doesn't even make sense in the sentence and less often to a word that doesn't even sound similar to the word I spoke. I thought one of the things these apps was supposed to have the capability of doing was to learn as it went and thereby get more accurate in time but I certainly don't see that happening for me. Can anyone give me some insight as to why this has become my experience and are there any fixes I can try?

New S9 can send/receive texts (SMS) but not text pix (MMS)

This is a new unlocked phone I recently got from eBay for my wife. We have PagePlus Cellular service (a Verizon MVNO). This phone is a replacement for her old S7. I swapped the SIM card into the new phone and everything seemed to work. But it soon became apparent that the phone can't send or receive pix or other media via text.

I searched online and found some tips (reboot the phone, reseat the SIM card, clear the cache, etc, all to no avail). Eventually I checked the Access Point Names. The S9 didn't have any entries. I have an S8, so I tried manually copying my APN info to her phone, but it didn't work. Then I tried resetting the network settings. At this point, the phone lost all mobile network connections, and after trying every option I could find (both online and from customer service) to get it to connect, I had to factory reset the phone.

After the factory reset, I tried MMS again before I ran Smart Switch. Even without any additional apps on the phones, MMS still doesn't work. It doesn't work in Safe Mode either.

I also tried swapping SIM cards with my S8. My phone works properly with either SIM card, but the S9 doesn't get MMS with either SIM.

Right now the phone can send and receive calls and texts (SMS), but the original text media (MMS) problem remains. Can any1 offer some insight?

Help How do I stop a mistaken Photo upload!

Cubot Note Plus - Android 7.0 stock.
Google photos app.

I accidentally somehow hit the Upload or Share icon top of screen, I assume the upload cloud icon. Two photos apparently while looking through many photos using the default Google Photos app.

I can see the upload in process, 2 files. It doesn't give their names, it won't let me stop the upload, I can't see what files I've selected!
I was looking through many photos, so I've just found one and cancelled, but I can't find the other that is still trying to upload!
Is my only option to look through several hundred photos checking the Cloud icon status?
Or let the upload finish and only then delete?

The cloud icon has a glitch, so it can take time to stay solid white in colour, for a split second starts grey and can look like maybe an uploaded file, slowing my search down a lot!

I think when I was zooming in is how I've touched the Cloud icon at top of screen.
No confirmation to send, it just started.
It seems very easy to accidentally upload a photo, but hard to stop or manage it!
I do not upload any files, so this is something I'm not knowingly doing!
I've never had backup running or synced any files to google!

I turned off Wi-Fi but I couldn't find how to stop the uploads. I Forced stopped Photos app but once I enabled it again the upload continued.

Sorry if I'm missing something obvious, but not yet found anything about stopping an upload without looking through many of my photos one by one, or maybe letting upload then delete!

Thanks for any help on this.
----
Edit:
Went through all photos and didn't see any others selected for cloud upload!
Cleared google photos app cache.
Forced stopped google photos app.
Removed all permissions of app. (no access to my photos!!)
Rebooted phone.
Photos is now showing uploading 1 file. Is this a google app bug?

How to change aspect ratio of screen

I am trying to change the aspect ratio of my phone's screen, presumably by changing the resolution, to achieve the result shown in the image.

DYOWQ.jpg

I am not trying to just change the resolution without changing the screen size as you would with an app such as 'nomone resolution changer'

I am not trying to hide the top and bottom of the screen as you would with an app such as 'notch hider'

I am not trying to just move the icons on screen as you would with 'adb overscan'

I want the device to behave as if those areas of the screen are not there at all, so they just stay black all the time

I know this will require root so bring on the root solutions

Thanks in advance

Help trying to find an old game (forgot its name...)

hey good people...
I'm trying to find a game that i played about 6 or 7 years ago.
i"ll do my best to describe what i remeber from it...
it was a peggle style game where you had to hit a stationary enemy with magic orbs that each one had a special ability that you could triger after you launch the orb like multiple orbs or fire or extra damage...
i think you could pick 2 diferent chracter to play in each level. they had an arcane look to them... some with elemental powers that you could upgrade.
the enemy was basically a large circle with a monster face on it surounded by obstacles to make it harder for you to hit it.
thats all i remember...
would love to know if it rings any bells.
thank you!

This (doesn't) suck(s)

I recently purchased a Dirt Devil Reach vacuum. It makes noise and puts out some heat, but where's the suction? Also, some of the tools are apparently missing. This may or may not have anything to do with the damaged box. I suppose I should send it back to Chewy but as those who have been on here for a while surely know, I don't need any more hassles. Is there any way I could at least make it (not) suck on my own?

Help Titanium Backup and Dropbox

I am a licensed user of Titanium Backup (TB), am running V8.4.0.2 on my rooted Android device (which is running Android 10), and TB has run well for years - the only ‘issue’ being that the ‘Sync to Dropbox’ would never run as a scheduled task and I have had to run it manually.

However, when I recently tried to run ‘Sync to Dropbox’, it didn’t work. Based on some looking around, I found that ‘Erase the access token’ was the recommended fix. I did this, tried again, and had to login into Dropbox (and I do have the Dropbox app on my phone). Logging in was not an issue, seeing the files on Dropbox works just fine, but when I tried to run ‘Sync to Dropbox’, I see the message ‘Sorry, failed to obtain Dropbox access’.

I have asked Titanium Track LLC this question twice, but have not heard back from them. What on earth should I try?

Help Difference between Internal Storage/Pictures and My Files/ Images?

Hi again,

I will try to keep questions to a minimum, but for now please can someone help, thanks.

I want to transfer selected images from my old tablet to the new A8 but ensure they go to a dedicated folder. I created a new Folder in Internal Storage/Pictures and put some photos there, thinking the folder would automatically show up in Images under My Files.

Fail! No such luck.

I haven't managed to move the new Folder and it's contents to Images. Is there a way to do this?

Failing this, how can I create a new Folder within the Images folder?

I am clearly not understanding the difference between My Files and Internal Storage. Thanks for any suggestions,

Roger

Help Changing new sim card into old phone

Hello,

A. Can I use 5G SIM card in Samsung Galaxy Note8? Is it just insert 5G SIM card and it will work?

B. What data/apps/info/history will I lose when I switch from 4G (old card) to 5G (new card) SIM card?

C. What steps to do (backup) before my old SIM card deactivate so I will ensure I have all the same items when I use the new SIM card?

I will be receiving a new 5G SIM card and the 4G SIM card will be deactivated once the 5G SIM card activates.
I am currently using 4G SIM card in my Samsung Galaxy Note8.

Thanks

Firestick

Somebody I know has just been given a firestick that somebody else was not using. I tend to be the go to guy for this sort of thing. Of course the instructions are missing. The box includes just the stick with its end cap, connected in a nonusb way, I guess, the remote, and the HDMI cable. Supposedly it's all set up and ready to roll. What kind of USB cable does it take, regular or c type? Is a plasma TV HDTV? This Panasonic TH-42PZ85U, though made in February 2008, has a couple of HDMI slots.
