Mobile data being used while on wifi?

I have a Galaxy Note 10+ and I was at home today and out of no where I got an alert saying that I had just exceeded my monthly data limit and was now in data saver mode. Both devices on my plan were at home all day...

What could have caused this? I know in the past I have seen a setting that will improve your download/upload speeds by using mobile data and wifi together but I can't find that setting anywhere to check and see if it is on.
Besides that, I am clueless how this could happen and seems pretty shady on Verizon's part...

Help File picker not working from any app - Android Oreo / 8.1

I have a strange and frustrating problem that I can't seem to select files on my phone.

It doesn't matter which app it is - whether it's trying to add an attachment to an email, send a file via WhatsApp (browse other docs...), upload a file using Chrome, etc - whenever I tried it, the "Recent" files screen pops up briefly and then disappears again before it even fully loads.

I fiddled with some options in developer tools (perhaps it was something like "show all errors" and the error that is shown is "File has stopped" or if I try it several files "Files keeps stopping".

When I reboot to safe mode, it works correctly. Perhaps it's a problem with another installed app, but I have over 100 other apps installed and don't want to uninstall and re-install them all.

Is there a way of selectively disabling some apps to see if they are the cause without actually uninstalling them?
Or any other/better way of troubleshooting this?

This is happening on Android Oreo 8.1.0 on an Umidigi One Max.

Member Authors!

I couldn't find a thread in search about this... so I started one!

If you're an author with books on the market, let us all know about it!

I'll start, since I'm kinda proud of my latest book. A Man's Guide to Babies is now available at Amazon in print and Kindle versions! This light, fun book is a great gift idea for any Dad... especially a prospective one!

I also have two kids' books that, due to ISBN conflict, I had to withdraw from the market. They should be available again soon, in ebook and print version, well before the Christmas holiday shopping season!

Whay can I not block certain texts?

I don't do texting, have never sent one and until recently, never even read one but I recently looked in "Messages" and found hundreds of texts. Nearly all are either spam or scams wanting to buy my house, wanting to sell me a home or car repair policy and a plethora of other scams. I went through the most recent 100 and found only three that were from a legitimate source so I started blocking the numbers I could and deleting the texts one by one but there are some I am not allowed to block.

An example of one that I am not offered the "Block Number" button says it's from my wireless carrier and says I've won $1000 and asks me to enter personal information. There are others that somehow the "Block Number" button is not there.

Is there any way to stop these?

S22 Ultra or Pixel 6 Pro for me? Disregard Price

Hello,
I'm a Pixel 3 XL user and about to switch to the S22 Ultra (256 GB) that I purchased. However, I'm thinking about selling it locally for $980 and buying the Pixel 6 Pro for basically the same money after tax. So considering price is the same, which should I get? Consider:

1. I like the stock Android feel of my Pixel (not a lot of extra bloatware). I don't want extra stuff installed - or overly fancy interface that just sends up slowing the phone down or causing more bugs. For any of you that have used both, is the Samsung interface smooth, simple, and not buggy? Or do you prefer the Pixel's more basic interface?

2. Battery life is important. I hear the S22 Ultra isn't great. And I've heard that about the Pixel 6 Pro. Tests seem to show them pretty similar, if not better on the S22. But user reviews (real life usage) seem to say the Pixel does better than the Samsung?

3. I'm very interested in the camera quality (I do a lot of travel photography - city scenes, nature/wildlife, etc and want a good camera for when I'm not taking my high end digital camera), but they seem to be a wash to me. Both look like great quality pictures with minor differences; maybe a bit better with the Pixel. And the S22 has 2 different Zoom levels, but considering the higher Megapixel count on the Pixel's 4x Zoom, you can crop zoom with the Pixel and have about the same as the 10x zoom levels with the S22 Ultra.

4. Others: The S Pen is cool, but not sure I'll use it.
The rounded corners of the Pixel seem less likely to cause cracked screens than the S22's sharp corners?
Future trade in value? Seems like that would be an easy win for Samsung when comparing S21 Ultra and Pixel 5 trade in values...
I've read the Pixel's speech to text (for texting, etc) is much better than Samsung's - is that true? I use that a lot...
Speed for things like gaming isn't very important to me.
Reliability *IS* :)

I'd love to hear your thoughts on the options considering what's important to me! Thanks,

Strange missing person SMS (NOT Emergency Alert)

Both yesterday and today I got SMS messages that appeared to be worded like an AMBER Alert but weren't designated as such (no siren sound, no emergency alert notification, just a standard text ringtone and thread). comes from what appears to be a phone number and has text like:

FML@POLICE: Missing Person, 5ft tall, blonde hair, wearing white shirt and blue jeans. Last seen in [county name here]. Contact local authorities if spotted

It came twice yesterday on my Galaxy SII, which I'm just guessing since it pre-dates the Wireless Emergency Alerts feature/app is being routed to SMS. Never seen it before, and today it came again saying 'Thank you for your efforts, the missing person has been located'

Never had it show up like a regular SMS before. I've had this phone since September of last year. I have CB (Cell Broadcast) as well as "Emergency Texts" both disabled in the Messages app settings. They still came in. If I see them again I'll get a screenshot. I figured they were scams and just deleted them. The only thing like it I could find online were a few Reddit threads about a similar system in Sydney. I live in the USA. They called it Geo Targeted SMS Messaging or something.

I hate 5G

This is only getting worse.

My cellular service has basically gone to 0.

Now, the wi-fi - which I have to depend upon because cellular no longer works- is also failing.

Everyone thinks that 5G is soooooo much better, then comes up with excuse after excuse when the switch is made and nothing works anymore.

My online time is spent in total frustration, mostly in wasted attempts just to stay connected.

With each connection, there may be a 5-10 minute actual connection time, then another dropped signal.

Of course, as soon as I select Wi-Fi with the quick settings tile, it connects immediately most times.

Then I have to try to think about what the hell I was doing before realizing that I had been disconnected.

By then, it has usually disconnected again.

I cannot convince anyone otherwise, even when I demonstrate a (at least) two bar signal difference when standing right in front of the router.
"No, 5G is still better", they say.

This from people that cannot tell if their phone is connected with wi-fi or through their carrier.
(Seriously.)

Why the hell can't there just be a selector on the phone to disallow 5G wi-fi connection?

All I can see that 5G wi-fi does is interrupt a perfectly good 5 bar 2.4G wi-fi connection with a puny, slow, and broken up 1-3 bar 5G signal.

This is just making people pay more to get less, while making them think they are getting even more.

As far as wireless signals go, remember that it works just like wire sizes:
The bigger the number, the smaller the wire.
It is the same with cellular and wi-fi service.

Mint Mobile and WIFI calling confusion

Been using Republic Wireless for years, but since DISH bought them, everything has changed. Looking to get out!!!! I don't understand Mint Mobile's wifi calling. Why do I have to give a 911 address to access it? Does that mean that it only works when I am in that location? I am very mobile, so when I'm not home, can I log into a different wifi? This is what I loved about RW, but not sure if any other carrier allows for that kind of freedom.

Help Why do only some pictures transfer from Samsung Galaxy S7 to laptop?

I'm trying to help my mother. We transferred photos via USB cord using File Explorer. Not all the photos on her Samsung Galaxy S7 phone showed in Explorer. For example, there were 16 photos she took on one day and only 9 showed in the phone's DCIM folder, yet we could see them on her phone. Several of the missing photos were taken within a few minutes of ones that did show in Explorer. I looked in both the camera and card folders. We finally sent the missing photos from her phone via email. I'm an Apple user and not sure how to fix this. My Mom is 80 years old and is anxious about not getting all her photos. Thanks!

Phone Not Charging

I have a relatively new Pixel 4a that's spent it's entire life in a case with a screen protector that's been well taken care of.

Recently, the phone would not take a charge. I plug it in and it says "charging rapidly" but even after hours the % hasn't changed.

I've tried all the usual:
- Restart
- Different chargers (yes OEM ones)
- Thoroughly cleaned the plug
- Even done a factory reset.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
