Help Need to install custom ROM in a Chinese tablet

Hello everyone !

I've a Chinese tablet device which I want to install on it a custom ROM to change its features and also its Android version to a newer one.
The problem is that the tablet doesn't have a known brand. I googled it and I didn't find a lot of matches and it doesn't display in the ROM websites. I can't find any related article about it.

The following are the tablet specs:
- Brand: ZTENG
- Model: ZT502 (PND)
- Board: zteng27_tb_c_kk
- Hardware: mt8127 (it seems like it's MediaTek)
- Android Version: 4.4.2
- Kernel Architecture: armv7l
- Root Status: Has Root
- CPU Architecture: ARM Cortex-A7 (4 Cores)
- GPU: ARM
_* If you need more info just tell me *_

So I want to know if I can change its ROM by a new one and let it has more features using a Universal ROM if this exists. I have a little knowledge in this domain but I didn't find something to do with this. I can't use TWRP because the device name is not listed in the compatible devices list.

I hope someone of you there can help me with this device :(
If there's any other required info, please just tell me and I will provide everything.

- Best Regards & Thanks !
Hajji Abdoullah.

Screwed For Cellular Service

As some of you may be aware, I was recently screwed out of cellular service by my provider.

If someone asks, I will rehash what that was about.

Anyway, after being without a working cellular for a month, I decided to break down and go with a pre-pay provider that my ol'lady uses- Straight Talk.

The advertised plan claims that for $35 you get unlimited minutes, unlimited texting, and unlimited data (5GB at high speed).

The device was $40.
Airtime must be purchased in order for the device to be activated.

To make a long story shorter, I tried to get my device activated multiple times over the course of 12 hours to no avail.

Oh, and they will not refund the cost of the airtime that I cannot use, unless I can give them a callback number to call me back later.

This would be fine, if I had a phone that worked.
I wouldn't be going through any of this if I had a damn phone that worked.

So now, I have yet another Android device that is Wi-Fi only, except that I effectively paid double for this one ($39.99+ tax for the device, airtime was $39.01 after tax).

Thank God for apps like Dingtone, otherwise I would not have any phone service at all with these things.

Help Can't install offline Google Maps after Micro SD install

Hello everyone. I just joined Android Forums for this problem. I just upgraded to a Smart phone from a flip phone finally. ;)

I have a Motorola Moto e6 XT2005DL. Android version 9.

I installed a micro SD card today (SanDisk Ultra Micro SDXC UHC-I CARD 128GB Class 10).

The phone is just fine with the SD card...it recognizes it. I've moved pictures, videos, music to it. But now, when I try to download and install an offline Google Map, it will start downloading....it may even get to 100%, then it will say "couldn't download". (see image below)

No information (thanks Google). No reason why it wont work, just can't download. Before installing the SD card, I had an offline map installed (internal "device" location). But now with SD card installed it won't install on SD card OR on the internal device location.

I've tried clearing Google Map cash, Clearing data, then Force stop, then Disabling (uninstalling)/reinstalling...updating.....Nothing has worked.

I haven't tried yet, but my next step is to remove the SD card and try downloading offline map then. The phone is just fine with the card, but maybe Google Maps doesn't like it??

One of the those stupid pet-peeve irritations because it seems it should be so easy to do

Thanks in advance.

Wax

EDIT / UPDATE: Well, I'm now wondering if Google Maps itself is the problem. I have an Acer Tablet running Android 7. It has a micro SD card installed, with the Google offline map installed on the SD card. It's been working fine. However, I now deleted the offline map and tried from scratch to download a new offline map...."couldn't download" is what I got.
What the hell??

Hex editing app data

My question is I am trying to do some hex editing for an Android game that I play (increasing the amount of coins/cash in my inventory), but I'm not sure exactly which file to open up.

I will attach a screenshot of what I get when I open a file with my hex editor (the program I use is Hex Editor Free).

Help How do I globally disable conversation / silent notifications?

I know this was meant to be a big update for Android 11 but it actually makes my phone more of a pain to use, why would they do this without creating a simple way to turn it off?

Let me explain, I get a lot of messages, text messages, broadcast messages from whatsapp etc... I have a few popular social media accounts and 90% of the time i do not care about these convesations that popup. Some apps have the option of making the notifications an "alert" notification but the messages app for instance, forces you to set this on a conversation basis.

The real problem here is that, if I don't read the messages, or hide the notification, they supersede all of my other notifications on the notification panel, important ones, like from my bank? Why would a message from some idiot on facebook be more important than a notification from my banking app telling me funds have been debited?

So I have resorted to turning notifications from messages off all together, just so I can get other apps to show their notifications on my lock screen. If I don't, you never actually see any notifications from any other apps, I cannot even increase the number of notifications displayed on the lock screen.

Unless I'm missing something here, Google have screwed up on the big assumption that everybody wants to see their conversations over everything else.

The other thing, every whatsapp call now goes into silent notifications no matter what setting I choose, now I can never see I have a whatsapp missed call without scrolling right to the bottom of this notification list, when i should just see it at a glance. Just keep it normal why did they need to "fix" something that was not broken?
Worse thing here is, I can't even roll back. This "feature" has basically rendered notifications useless for me.

Please someone advise how to simply turn off this annoying categorisation of notifications in a way thats faster and simpler than me going to amazon right now and ordering an iphone. Thank you

Help Wifi disconnects and immediately reconnects

Hey all, first post here.. I've already done a search and couldn't find a solution.

Like the title says, my brand new S21 disconnects from wifi and then promptly reconnects. This happens on every network I've been connected to so I know it's not a network issue. I've tried everything I can think of, Resetting Network settings, Clear cache, factory reset.. all no help. Any one have any suggestions on what to try or apps that might be causing the interrupt?

The weirdest part is that this was happening on my previous phone too. Samsung A51 5g UW and Verizon gave me an upgrade. I'm stumped!

Thanks in advance!

Indie Filmmaking with Galaxy Fold 2

I'm trying to simplify my life, and not have so many different devices. I'm also an documentary filmmaker, and I know the Fold 2 has a good camera.

However, I'm wondering how it do rendering video footage (1920, not 4k). I know a lot of laptops aren't made for rendering an entire feature film, so I'm guessing the Fold may struggle with that.

However, I'm curious if anyone has tried rendering a feature film using the Fold and android video editing apps, and if so, how did it go? What were the pros and cons of doing so?

Thank you for any feedback.

Wipe Cache Partition, Repair apps & Galaxy App Booster

A few procedures that I personally find helpful after installing an update are wiping the phone's temporary Cache Partition and using the Galaxy Apps Booster.

Wiping the Cache Partition is considered best practice after a major firmware update and can solve a lot of issues, such as lagging and apps foreclosing. This does not affect your data and is very simple and easy to perform.

Whilst in Recovery mode you can also select the option to, "Repair apps", in case you are experiencing app issues.

This video will show you how to clear your phone's temporary Cache Partition of any corrupt files and detritus that may cause issues for you. It works on all S21 series devices...

p.gif

I also use the Galaxy Apps Booster as well, which can be found in the, "Good Guardians", app in the App drawer of Android 12.

Simply run the Galaxy App Booster. If it is your first time using this app it can take awhile to finish. Subsequent runs are around 4 min's.

Apps Unresolved Reference Error

Hi, I'm new to android studio. I have installed android studio 4.2.0 and run the application on Windows 10 with i5, 8GB ram and NVIDIA MX230 Graphics. I'm simply trying to change text of a TextView named "firstText" using the .kt file as follows:
Code:
class MainActivity : AppCompatActivity() {
    override fun onCreate(savedInstanceState: Bundle?) {
        super.onCreate(savedInstanceState)
        setContentView(R.layout.activity_main)
       firstText.text = "Welcome humans"
        }
    }
}
The firstText throws an error as "unresolved reference" and for the .text it throws "variable expected". What should I do to get this working?

Is there a way to open notifications with a single tap?

After switching from an iphone to a pixel last year, everything is great except for one thing - why do you have to double tap to open a notification ?! It seems so pointless and is the only time a double tap is used in the whole OS. I've searched everywhere and no one seems to have mentioned it anywhere online, but is there a way to make it so they open with just a single tap?
