Lost the ability to change USB Config to MTP

On my Galaxy 7, up until a few days ago, I was able to go to Settings/Developer Options/USB Configuration/ and then pick MTP protocol and then easily transfer photos from my SD card to my PC. All of a sudden, about 3 days ago, when I swipe on the settings icon and go look for the "Developer Option" choice, it is no longer there. Was there an upgrade done in the background that eliminated that choice? More importantly, now what is needed to be able to move my photos from the SD card to my PC ?

Available on Google Play

This is just version 1, so please please please give me as much feedback as you can

Hope y'all get nostalgic feels from this windows 98 style simulator. The objective is simple; close the popups before it crashes the computer! It may sound simple, but even level 1 can be extremely challenging!

Camera app issues/advice

Hi,

I just bought a Xaomi Mi Note 10, mainly because I wanted a better camera, and the camera set-up gets good reviews. But I'm having a couple of issues. Things that were better on my older Moto G6 (which was half the price).

Selfies - depth of field.
When I take a selfie my face is sharp and detailed but anyone behind me - a metre or more away is totally blurred out. This is terrible for group selfies, especially when everyone is a bit distanced ( which is always the case now :( ). Is there anything I can do about this, or is it just a problem with the hardware (lens)? It was much less of an issue on the Moto.

Sweep panorama.
When I used the camera app on the Moto, it would go the full 360 degrees, creating a full loop. And then, when uploaded to Google Photos (or facebook, whatever) it would display as a rotating panorama image, presumably with the correct Exif data. When I use the sweep panorama on the Xaomi it stops before reaching the start - eg at maybe 180 degrees. Also, on Google photos it won't display as a 360 panorama image. I tried using Exif Fixer software, but it just messes it up. Is there an app which will take better sweep panoramas?

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong place. I couldn't see a category for Xaomi, or one for cameras/photography, but I'd be grateful for any useful help or suggestions.

Thanks.

Help Toggle specific apps to notify or not based on wifi

Hay all,

This is the first I've found of Tasker and it looks amazing! I can't wait to think of cool new routines for my phone. My question is this:

Sometimes I'm at work and pulled away from my desk for longer than I expect. As much as 2 hours, which is long enough to wish I had seen an email earlier. I have my phone/watch notifications turned off because when I'm at work I'm getting messages via my laptop, and at home they will text me if it's important. When my (Work wifi is near + Laptop Bluetooth is near), I want notifications OFF for Outlook (and others) as I'm certainly sitting in front of my laptop. (Work wifi + NO laptop Bluetooth) means I'm on the warehouse floor and I want those messages getting to me via phone/smartwatch, so I want Tasker re-enabling the notification of those apps. Home wifi near means disabling of those notifications since now work is somebody else's problem! :p

I have a Samsung Note 9, running Android 10, One UI 2.1, unrooted. Setting the wifi near and Bluetooth near is easy enough, but no matter which settings I look into I can't find the specific one I'm looking for App Settings, General Settings, Notifications...

Am I missing something , do I need to look into creating a custom variable, something else?

Thanks

Unable to do factory reset - stuck in "ODIN MODE"

Hello, I am new to this forum and almost a complete beginner when it comes to Android.

I just found my old Samsung SM-G360F phone lying on the floor. I thought I lost it several years ago, but apparently it slipped through the bed mattress and landed on the floor where it has remained until this day.

I connected the charger and it seems that the battery still works normally. Unfortunately, I set up some password on this phone when I used it years ago, and of course, there's no way I can remember it now. So, the only way I can recover this phone is to do a factory reset.

On the Internet, I can see that the recommended method to do a factory reset on this phone is to hold the HOME key and Volume UP key, and then press the Power key and hold all three keys until the recovery mode is displayed. The problem is, I never get the recovery menu by pressing these keys, but instead I always get some kind of "ODIN MODE".

Please take a look at the screenshot I made with another phone of this ODIN MODE screen. The first picture is of this ODIN Mode screen. The second picture is what I get if I press Volume DOWN + HOME + Power On. It's some kind of download mode, which again isn't what I need right now, because there's no way to select factory reset from this mode.

Could someone please help me and explain how I can do a factory reset on this phone? Thanks in advance!

Are These Asurion 3-Year Warranties on Amazon Too Good to Be True?

I just ordered an S10 5G ($450 from Amazon Renewed with 90-day warranty). Interestingly, when you go to purchase they ask if you want an Asurion Protection Plan for $7.49 month which covers everything except theft/intentional damage and there's a $39/$59 charge depending on how you get it repaired (through them or reimbursed) and $129 for full device replacement. Interestingly, You can buy $450-$499 protection plan outright on Amazon for the same company for $57.99 for a 3-year plan. A lot cheaper than 36 X $7.49 = $269. And this is crazy, the details and Asurion confirmed in the questions section on Amazon this has no $39/$59/$129 deductible!! Can't believe it.

How tough is the glass on the S10?

Anyway, on to my question. The largest device I've used so far is an LG V30 (6" screen) This S10 5G is a big boy, 6.7" screen, larger than the S10+. I always get the thinnest case possible that just barely allows for the screen to not touch the surface if I set the phone down screen side down. I've never cracked a screen in about 12 phones over 25 years (yes, I'm 51 years old, had the first Samsung Windows CE Smartphone WAY back in the day.) But it can always happens especially on these slipper curved screen phones.

My question is, how scratch prone is the Gorilla Glass 6 used on the front/back of the phone. I've always got top dollar on Ebay on all my old phones because they look brand new since they always had a case. I do get the screen protectors also but frankly, as many of you know, this really only protects effectively against scratches and the shock from dropping the screen on a non-perfectly flat surface in many cases cracks the screen underneath. It still helps without adding bulk to the phone.

There's always "skins" but they are very hard to apply well and the corners usually start to peel and it can be had to find clear skins. Coincidentally though, the best feeling screen protector I ever used was a "military grade" film and not a glass screen protector. Never showed a single scratch and added less bulk to the top of the screen and was just as smooth feeling as the glass. Was amazing! Can't remember the brand.
So after that long story, my question is, for those of you using your S10's for a while without a case, how well does the glass hold up to getting little surface scratches? I'm considering, with this warranty, and considering how large the phone is, to forego a case.

Android 8.0.0

A few days ago the "battery share" app started on its own and it flashed on and off the screen repeatedly until I restarted the phone.

That night my phone wouldn't charge but I discovered that it will charge if I turn the phone off. Bizarre!

All was well for a few days until yesterday when the "battery share" appeared flashing on and off again. I restarted the phone again but this time got a message to the effect that android couldn't load because it may be corrupted. Try again or factory reset. Multiple attempts to try again failed and so I decided to bite the bullet and do a factory reset. Multiple attempts at a factory reset also failed.
I started looking for and found a variety of android recovery programs (all of which for one reason or another are useless and all seem to use the same interface) and in the process found that if my phone is connected to my PC by USB then it will start up (sadly everything lost in the reset).

Long story short this is where I'm now at
  • Phone will charge from wall socket or PC but only if the phone is turned off.
  • Phone will only turn on if connected via USB to my PC. If I attempt to turn it on without the connection to my PC I am informed that android is corrupted and given the choice of try again or factory reset.
  • I've downloaded a few programs that suggest they might help but when all is said and done they're not helping. "dr.phone" and "ReiBoot" appear to be the same thing and do not recognise my CAT and seem only to want to recognise Samsungs. "Mobikin" recognises my phone but doesn't do anything helpful.
I'm hoping someone here can help or advise on what I might do next. Buying a new phone is not an option right now and turning the phone off to charge it and attaching it to my PC to turn it on is just a little annoying to say the least.
Any and all thoughts gratefully received.

Is the apk which is available on apkpure safe and reliable?

For example, on the detailed page of apkpure website for 'Google Chrome browser', I noticed that the field value of 'uploaded by' is someone else other than 'Google LLC'.

So, I wonder whether this apk is safe and reliable enough to download and install on Android devices. Have apkpure finished some security check? ......

As we know, Google Play Store is unavailable on Android devices in some countries. These Android users have to download their apks in order to install some apps.

Thanks for your comments and advices in advance.

cannot add network printer

Hi - hope some can help please - I am stuck! :-)

I am trying to print from a Samsung S8 (and also A5) to a network printer.
I have googled options and added a few plugins. All seem to get stuck at the same point - I click add printer and it asks me to enter IP address. I enter the IP address of my print server and it then says no printer found (exact error message depending on which plugin I use).

I am using a printer connected to a print server. To print from my Windows machines on the same network, I am printing to "http://192.168.0.254:631/printers/billion" where "billion" is the name of my HP printer.

Any ideas?

TIA!
