Help J5 decrypt eMMC

Hey

a friend of mine accidentally deleted a few files on her 2016 J5. I told her I can try to recover them. First thing I did was trying to root the phone, which resulted in a error message. On the next bootup a message appeared, saying that there is a security issue and in order to continue, the userdata has to be formated. Obviously I didnt click ok, instead I removed the battery, and eventually desoldered the eMMC chip in order to backup the data there. I got all the partitions backed up, including the userdata.img. Nevertheless the userdata image is the only one I am not able to extract nor mount. So I suppose it is encrypted.

Myy friend used a key pattern lock, I do know the combination. Is there a way to decrypt the userdata using adb maybe?

Customizing SMS notifications

What would be the easiest way to turn off SMS notifications for all messages from non-contacts only (besides going through and individually setting each one)? Is this possible to do for calls, too? Currently I use YouMail which lets me block calls from non-contacts but I don't really want to block them-- just get them off of my notifications list.

Any messaging or other calling app in particular that anyone recommends that would most easily facilitate this? Thanks for the help!

Help Privacy policy on boot, settings changed and notifications missing

I have a Archos Diamond Alpha (a rebadged Nubia NX569J, aka Nubia Z17 mini)

So this morning I turn it on and the Nubia Privacy Policy appears. It's never done before (well I guess it might have the first ever time I turned it on) and now it needs agreeing to on every reboot. It's also popped up a couple of times while using the phone.

Some settings have changed (location, wifi, bluetooth all off, click on every touch turned on, display timeout reduced to a short interval). Possibly more that I haven't found.

Even more annoyingly, app notifications make a sound but don't appear in the notification bar so I have no clue which app is notifying me! Gmail is also not updating - it only updates with new messages when I open it.

Four apps were updated yesterday and I have uninstalled those. I don't beleive any OS updates have been applied.

I've rebooted a couple of times, including after uninstalling apps

I have not done a factory reset - all the app icons are still there and apps installed.

In settings:
 • Under the Notification Centre, Shown Notification ICon is still enabled
 • Under individual apps Show Notifications is still enabled.
I've got 4.5GB free memory out of 64GB so not too bad

There are no system updates waiting and as far as I can tell the versions haven't changed.

I'm reluctant to do a factory reset (due to the time to get it all setup again). Has anyone else seen the same issue occur or have any ideas?

lg k20 endoscope question

i have the lg k20 plus phone and i have an endoscope camera and i just cant get them to connect. i have installed 5 apps and they tell me the phone is otg ready and working but the scope will not show. so does anyone have an endoscope that works on this phone? and what model or app. it may be i have the wrong apps. i uninstalled them after they failed, no sense having junk on the phone. i have had a need for that endoscope now about 5 times and about 5 times i've tried to use it and install apps and it has yet to show.

the endoscope did work on an old samsung but then the app that was working got updated and then failed to work with that old phone. one reason i lept that old phone. any ideas how to get this endoscope to work or is the phone just going to work with an endoscope camera? thanks

Invalid Kernal length, and it won't charge

So, my Samsung galaxy tab a 10.1 decided to not work anymore. Since the tablet's battery died it needs to be constantly plugged in, but it won't actually charge or hold the charge if you understand. Whenever it is plugged the, the screen tries to show the plugged in and charging screen with the percentage, but it starts flashing for some reason. And other times whenever I try to turn it on there are red letters saying "invalid kernel length." After that it will try to boot again but fail and then just not turn on the screen at all. Does anyone have any idea on how I can fix it? Or should I just get a new tablet?

Reviews Now that I've had it for a bit: my review of the Motorola One Hyper

It's been almost two weeks since I received my Motorola One Hyper, and I feel comfortable now giving it a review.

To start, its screen is awesome! Going from the 5.5" screen of my Moto Z² Force to this 6.5" all-screen display has been amazing. I posted these pics in another thread, but will use them here, too, as they're good comparison shots:

As you can see, there's a lot more screen on the One Hyper.

Its camera specs were not important to me, as I don't use my phones for 'real' photography, but the pics I have taken with it have been quite nice. I believe its resolution goes up to 4640x3472. Here are its choices for its rear and front cameras:

This is my first Android device that isn't black! It's a beautiful, deep shade of my favorite color, blue:

The phone shipped with a case, the soft gel kind that only protects the back--not the logical part, the screen, that's so prone to damage:

So I bought a full-enclosure case instead; it's clear, so I can still see the phone's pretty color.

There's really nothing I dislike about this device. It's very fast, its storage space [128GB] will last me forever [although it is expandable], and there was very little bloatware on it upon arrival. (I bought it unlocked, and am using it with Consumer Cellular.)

It shipped with Android 10, so I expect it to get at least one update. I guess time will tell.

Among several nice surprises were its FM radio and Dolby audio. Listening to the radio on it the other day, I felt like I was having déjà vu...I thought I'd gone back in time and was listening to a transistor radio. :D

Just FYI, I couldn't get the phone I actually wanted, the Motorola Edge+, because it's only available with Verizon [in the US]. I don't want or need an expensive Verizon plan when I'm on Wi-Fi 99.99% of the time, you know?!

For the way I use my phone, this was an excellent choice. I can't speak to its use for heavy gaming or streaming, as I'm not doing those.

If this phone lasts as long as my other Motorolas, it should keep me happy for a few years.

Blue Light

I keep my note 4 around just in case but picked it up to charge it and look for something on it, the carrier crap showed up but after that the phone was black and there a blue light where the notification light usually is.

is my note 4 dead now, it was just fine a week before ?

Major sd problem

This morning I was going to move some pictures to sd, but when I got to My Files it said there were no files on it. I shut down the S5 and took out the card. It looks ok, no corrosion. I put it back and there's still the same problem. The second time was the same. It's a 256 gb sd card, red and gray.
