Netflix keeps creating shortcut.

Starting about six months ago, Netflix began creating a shortcut on my home screen, in spite of the fact that I have the setting disabled in the Play Store. If the shortcut is already created, I will get a toast notification telling me that a Netflix shortcut has already been created. It's the only app that does this. And it's every time I use the phone. I've tried deleting the data associated with that app and then reinstalling to no avail. As I said, I have the option to create shortcuts disabled in the Play Store. Is there a reason for this Behavior or is my Note 5 just getting too old?

Best Player – Best Cans (both budget)

Hello,

some forum doesn´t unlock me, to be able to post. So i hope it´s o.k. to post this here.

Because of a thread on

superbestaudiofriends

i decided to buy the Sony Xperia X Compact (~60€) earlier this year. The sound out of it was quite good, warm, musical, but somehow muddy. Through eu-regulation the overall volume of the phone was too low. So I flashed a different firmware and with max volume, my main two iems I use, Tin T2 and Kz-Zs3 sounded quite alright on the X-Compact (no Eq → neutral setting, auto optimization on, other stuff off), but I imagine there are plenty cans and iems that could not be driven by the phones amp properly. Now, a couple of weeks ago the Sim-Card couldn´t be recognized anymore. I said to myself, o.k. I use it as a dap and for gps from now on, and my S4 as a telephone. But the temptation for repairing it was too strong. So now only my Galaxy S4 and S2 are left, both many years old and still working 100%. The sound through the 3,5mm Jack is terrible from the S4 and even worse from the S2. I tried a Samsung A5 from someone, sounds worse than my phones.

I am searching for a phone that does things as fast as the X-Compact (surfing, opening apps, using them…, no games), 5” Screen and up, with fast GPS Signal and superb sound out of the 3,5mm Jack for max. ~200€ (used or new) and Cans (3,5mm Jack) for max ~150€ (new).

Through a huge thread on
head-fi
which I read for hours and other internet sources I now make this list:

I listen to classical music, hard-rock, metal, certain types of electronical music but not the club stuff, flute music, traditional songs from all sorts of countries, motivational music, wait…, basicly I listen to almost everything, but not pop and hip-hop and some other genres.

Possible Phones:

Meizu MX4 Pro (difficult to get in eu, as I read has the hardware from the iBasso DX90. It has no sd-card slot. Thats a no-go)

Vivo Xplay 6 (difficult to get in eu, read that it is better than Nex S)

LG G6 (read that not as good as LG V20 and V30 sound wise, but available in eu)

Vivo Nex S (difficult to get in eu, but I read vivo phones sound quite good)

LeEco Letv Le Max X900 (read that it is above them all soundwise, but otherwise it doesn´t work right, difficult to get in eu)

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 (could get it on amazon and send it back, if sound is not good)

Sony Xperia XZ1 (if am lucky on ebay, I could get it cheap. Is the amp better than X-Compact?)

LG V20 (read that sound is quite good, but phone has it´s problems, other people say it is working like on day one. Some say it has “sabre glare” and fat bass, which I dislike. Also it´s “razor sharp” as a negative, whatever that means.
I don´t know if I can trust this on ebay
"Neu in versiegelter Box LG V20 H910 64GB 5.7" Entsperrt Smartphone"
But as far as I read things on the net, it is possibly not new and more things are wrong with it.)

HTC One A9 (quite old, too old? I read sound is quite good)

LG V30 (Best LG Phone for sound? Sounds more analytical and cold, as I read, with a more aggressive, rough around the edges sound, compared to the V40. Never heard a phone that sounds like that. But so many people are saying it´s top tier! And it can drive high impedance earphones.
Don´t know if I can trust this on ebay
"Neu in Versiegelter Box LG V30 H932 64GB T-MOBILE 6.0" 4G LTE Smartphone"

LG V40 (Read it has improved sound compared to V30 with a more airy character, more spaciousness, better separation, with a cleaner, more musical sound. But some V30 users that switched to the V40 were disappointed)

Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 (could get it on amazon and send it back, if sound is not good)

HTC 10 (could get it rather cheap here in eu, has it´s problems. Has good sound and amp, as I read)
Sony Xperia XZ

Xiaomi Mi Note (which one?)

ZTE Axon 7 (a very few go very cheap on ebay, good amp, not so sure if this phone sounds good?)

LG G7 ThinQ (good sound, as I read, but worse than V30. And videos, in landscape mode look cut, compared to almost full use of screen of the V30)
Sony Xperia X

Samsung Galaxy S9 (For me surprisingly -> good audio, as I read and has a good amp)

A good volume normalization feature would be of interest and no eu-lowering-the-volume-of-the-phone regulation (Of course if it can be changed with a firmware, no problem).

Which phone to get?

Cans (that people use and write are good)

Sennheiser HD 600

Sony MDR-100AAP

AKG K712 PRO

beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO

beyerdynamic DT 990 PRO

RHA cl750 (these are iems)

Bang & Olufsen BeoPlay H3 (these are iems)

AKG K451

AKG K550

NuForce X massdrop edc3 (these are iems)

Koss Porta Pro (may get these as secondary Cans)

Sennheiser 506384 (too expensive)

Koss KSC75 (may get these as secondary Cans)

Shure SRH840

Audio Technica ATH-M50x

Meizu HD50

SENFER DT6 (may get these just for the heck of it)

Venture VE Monk (may get these just for the heck of it)

AKG K550

Massdrop x NuForce EDC3 (these are iems)

Ultrasone HFI-580 (Do-it-all Cans)

On the other hand, I can just go to some few shops in the city and test the their cans and buy a good one, not buying in the dark.

So my other idea would be to get a FiiO X1 (89€) for music and a cheap phone (if possible with exchangeable battery), with characteristics described above in this post, without the good audio. Shanlin M0 breaks, Fiio M3k sounds worse than X1, as I read.

Another idea would be to get a Meizu typ-c interface HIFI decoding amp
or
Hidizs Sonata HD
or something similar. But I can´t recall if the audio quality still has something to do with the phone, when a thing like that is connected to it? Furthermore if normalization and other sound settings work (USB Audio Player PRO, Neutron Player)? Also the phone can´t be charged, with the amp attached and I read these usb-c dac/amps drain battery hard.

Or a portable (with battery) dac/amp with a cheap phone?

I only have compressed music, m4a, mp3, ogg… So I basicly need a device that just delivers good sound with that. But somewhere in the back of my head I think trying out flac…

What is the best solution?

Bigpond on gmail in windows 10

ok So it's off topic but related.

I have a bigpond (telstra email here in australia) email address which I managed to insert in gmail on my android tablet using the bigpond address and password. It works fine.

But when I try to use that same bigpond email with gmail in chrome on my windows 10 computer, it doesn't work. It gets as far as the password entry step but will not accept it.

Can anyone help?

A G6 model that works with all 4 US carriers?

Which G6 model works - or can be ROM-flashed to work - on all 4 major US networks?

The US997 will apparently work on 3 of the 4 networks, but not Sprint? From what I've heard, you have to use a stock LS993 for Sprint, because flashing a US997 to a LS993 either won't work on Sprint (even though the hardware is the same), or Sprint won't approve it for their network. If that's true - and I'm not positive that it is - is it feasible to start with a LS993 instead, then flash that to a US997 when moving to one of the other 3 networks?

Thanks

WiFi Messaging

Is text messaging over WiFi possible with Motorola G7 Power phones?

My text attempts using WiFi result in either ....

1. message not sent
or
2. Message sent, but it actually isn't. (the recipient says he never got the message)

Text messaging over my network works OK.

What gives here ????

Online protection

Hi all,

I hope somebody can deconfuse me. I have a Talktalk broadband package that includes online security based on F-Secure product. My Talktalk security account shows that protection is applied to my PC, laptop, A5 mobile, S5e tablet and Tab3 tablet.

If I click on Settings/Device Maintenance/Device Security on my A5 I see that protection is by Knox active protection. If I do the same on my S5e tablet, I see a similar message but protection is by McAfee.

The menus on the Tab3 are different and I can't see anything like the above.

The latest Talktalk protection (Talktalk Online Defence) includes a Talktalk Safe Browser. Talktalk say that this is the only browser protected by their software.

I reset the Tab3 after buying the S5e but the Talktalk Online Defence won't work on such an old device.

Questions:

  1. Is the Talktalk instruction to use only their browser more than just about them getting advertising revenue?
  2. If I have Knox/McAfee protection on my newer devices, do I need to have the Talktalk package anyway?
  3. Will a simple app like AVG Secure VPN give me all the browser protection I need on my Tab3?

Thanks,

Ian

Problems with two Contacts apps on the V20

I have an LG V20, which is the third Android I have owned. Prior to these I had several iPhones over the years. Problem - and this is complicated: I have two sets of CONTACTS on the V 20, and I don't know how either of them got there. When I transferred content from my old V10, there they were.

One of them is a green and white icon and the other is the blue and white icon for Contacts seen in this forum. The "green icon" contacts app says that it is the SYSTEM app, and it cannot be uninstalled and reinstalled. The "blue icon" contacts app is apparently the official Google/Android app.

These are the problems I have been struggling with for months:

  • The 'Green' set of contacts has many hundreds of copies of several of the individual contacts, which are the people with whom I communicate the most, and I have no idea why or how these copies are made. I certainly never added them more than once. And I can't get rid of them. They reappear, over and over, after I manually delete them. Thus glut of unnecessary contact duplicates totals several thousand, using up needed space.

  • But the main problem is that this 'Green' set (the "system" set) of contacts has serious errors in how the contacts are identified, having somehow pulled content from various fields which are part of the contact's setup for that person -- i.e., it pulls content from the Notes field and the Address field, etc -- and scrambled it in with the person's name. And when I try to send an email to that person, that scrambled mess is what automatically appears in the 'To' field of the email. Example: 'Steven son Baker ICE1 Baker'. Obviously unacceptable, especially for my business contacts.
I have deleted these faulty names manually many times from the 'Green' list of contacts, and they keep coming back -- as if when the list syncs, it is syncing FROM a faulty master list that is stored somewhere and importing them back into my cleaned-up list, instead of the other way around.

Further, the Google email app on my phone defaults to the 'Green icon' set of contacts, instead of to the 'Blue' set which is supposedly the 'Google Contacts' app.

These same errors were also in the 'Blue icon' set of contacts, but I have manually deleted the faulty items in that set and they have not returned, so far. I AM ABLE to access the cleaned-up 'Blue' contacts list ONLY IF I use the Microsoft Outlook Mobile app. I cannot access the relatively clean Blue list from the Google email app, even though this is Google's contact list.

You might wonder why I don't just stop using the Google email app and stick to the Microsoft Outlook Mobile app. Even though the Microsoft Outlook Mobile app is generally superior to the Google email app in its final appearance (e.g., never skips several lines between paragraphs), the Outlook app occasionally has problems with certain kinds of messages -- such as refusing to send some attached image files, sometimes refusing to save to draft on the phone and never saving to draft back to my laptop, etc.

So . . . how do I permanently delete the content in the grossly faulty 'system contacts app' (the 'Green' icon app) so that I can import the relatively clean Google/Android contacts list into the systems app?

I should perhaps mention that both of my email accounts/addresses are gmail accounts attached to the company I own. And also, it is significant (I think) that I have NONE of these problems with either the contacts or the email functions on my laptop computer, which is Microsoft Outlook. I am sorry for the detail here, but it is a complex issue, and it's driving me crazy. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Mystery Icon In Smart Maps Offline Application

IMG_5352.JPG IMG_5353.JPG Hi All!
I installed Smart Maps Offline (By Map Apps). It has an icon on the screen that I can't figure out, despite much experimentation. (Photos are attached.) I messed around quite a while before giving up and doing an internet search for icon images. (Boy- There sure are a lot of them out there, but I didn't find this one!)

The one that looks like a ruler & a stick making an "X" is the default one. The one that looks like an iPod shows up when the screen is tapped.

I wrote to the developer a couple of times over the last 2 weeks, but received no reply, so that's out.

Do any of you know what this icon does?

Thanks For Helping!

If you are interested in hearing more, please let me know. I do need people with corporate Android experience though. We will relocate someone for this however, you do need to have US work authorization already, we cannot sponsor

Could developer mode allow me to send all incoming calls directly to voicemail?

That's the only issue I have now. Phone isn't in that mode anymore, not airplane mode, do not disturb is off. I can send and receive texts, sounds and notifications work, outgoing calls work and I've got working AT&T service. Call forwarding and call waiting settings are normal, nobody on my block list. I've done multiple resets, restarts (some in safe mode), removed and cleaned the sim card, did a factory reset and removed a bunch of apps.

It seems I had to have messed something up in developer mode, that's around when the issue started. Thoughts?

Contact Widget disappears a minute after creation

Good Friday morning.
I have an issue occurring on my Galaxy S4 and I would appreciate some insight and\or advice.

To the best of my knowledge, everything works just fine (on my phone.)
The phone has Android version 5.0.1 installed.

The issue has to do with a contact widget disappearing from the home screen a minute or so after creation.

I can successfully create a contact widget on my home screen.
And after creation, I can tap on it and it works.
But a minute or two after creation, the widget disappears from the home screen (all on it's own).

I have other widgets on my home screen, and none of them disappear.
It's only the contact widget.
Of note:
The contact widget is one of three widgets in the "Contacts" widget group that came installed on my S4.
I experience the same disappearing act regardless if I choose a "contact", "Direct Dial" or "Direct Message" widget from this group.

They all get created.
They all work perfectly after creation.
But they all disappear a minute or two after creation.

Any ideas as to how I may be able to do to stop the widget(s) from disappearing ?

Thanks
