*** Official Motorola Droid X Pre-Release Thread***

If I wait until late summer for Froyo and the 1900 mAh battery, will those two features come pre-installed when I buy the phone? Even if I wait until Froyo comes to the Droid X, would I have to buy it with 2.1 and then upgrade to 2.2?

..."and the NFL will stream full Thursday night games to the app as well" that seems kinda cool

Half of the Thursday night games and EVERY Sunday night game live, all season long :D

3 microphones, one for noise cancelling, combined with motorola and their phones being reputable for great service is awesome

Battery: 1500 mAh battery --- better battery than the HTC incredible, no?

Correct- Inc is 1300

So I am eligible in November for an upgrade but my contract isn't up till Jan 2, 2011, would I still qualify for this?

From the official press release:

"In addition, current Verizon Wireless customers who have contracts ending by December 31, 2010, can upgrade to any smartphone, including DROID X, without penalty."

Does look like its contract, not upgrade date, but theres no reason they wouldnt spot ya the extra 2 days..

PS. Anyone catch the above blurb about "ANY SMARTPHONE"?? Wonder how long thats good for??

I'm eligible for my upgrade now, although I won't get my $50 off until Aug. 18 (new every two) and my contract doesn't end till 12-2011. Think they would give me the $50 off a month early so I wouldn't have to wait?

You should be able to get the $50 with the early upgrade promo that they're runnin for the X.

what's this video mic they spoke about? could that be a front facing camera?

There's a third mic on the back of the phone, same side as the camera, to better capture audio when recording video.

So, now I'm thinking about it..... do I pre-order (if/when available) or go to the store the morning of? Getting it early morning instead of waiting for fedex/ups seems appealing. Either way I will probably take the day off work. :D

Honestly, I'm not sure there will be a pre-order.. I would think that they woulda announced it if there was.. But the 15th was the only date mentioned. That's how the Inc went- pre-order announced at official announcement..

Nice find! TI OMAP 3630-1000 ?? What happened to the 3640, interesting...

Supports class 6 flash media, lets hope the preinstalled 16gb card is class 6!

Haha sorry, VZW's not gonna be that generous- C6 costs at least 50% more than C2 when it comes to memory cards..

Accessory pricing confirmed on Droidlife.com.

This is gonna get expensive. It will run me an additional $130 for everything listed but I'll probably get a better case. I'm pretty sure the original Droid's dock was and still is only $30 along with the car mount being the same amount. Why do we have to pay more 7 months later?

UPDATE: Here's a better rundown of accessories from AndroidCentral...including some from Verizon. I'm all over the leather case with kickstand!

http://www.androidcentral.com/sites...-x-accessories/DROID X _Accessories FINAL.pdf

I'm all over the black graphite myself.. Unless I really dont like it, then I'll get the kickstand..

PS. Getting at least 3 accessories automatically gives you a 25% discount on everything at checkout- you can usually get the rep to sweeten it a little more even..

Edit: Just noticed that this is the "Official Motorola D-R-I-O-D X Pre-Release Thread..

spell check anyone?? ;)

It would depend how long you wait after Froyo is released on the Droid X, it won't come preinstalled right away but would eventually be on the models in store/online, but once it's released for the phone it would be via an Over the Air update.

The extended battery is an accessory that's sold separately, the phone comes with a 1500mAh battery standard.

Honestly, this is the phone I was wishing the Incredible was going to be. Not to say I've had problems with this phone, but it is to say that the Droid X with it's better rated battery life and specifications just screams to me to purchase it.

Looks like this is the phone that will get me to "pull the trigger" on gettin' a new phone. I've been eligible to upgrade with a $100 NE2 since March, but my Omnia1 has been serving me quite well so was in no herry. I had been eyeing the EVO but with the battery life and screen lifting issues, I have been holding off to see what happens. Not to mention that the EVO is out-of-stock almost everywhere.

I'll be following this thread to see what new information comes to light in the next 2-3 weeks.

Good luck to all with whatever you decide to do,

yesterday during the question and answer session they said that they may release a similar phone to the UK. What do you guys make of the chance it would come out sometime this summer?

From the heady days when I had good ol' Motorola StarTAC, I for one am glad to see Moto back in the fray. Ye gads I loved that StarTAC ( "The sleek Motorola StarTac mobile phone was introduced in 1996 at the price of $1,000— at a time when many mobile phone makers started giving away their products in return for user subscription fees") and now, many years later I feel compelled to definitely get the X. It would be the first Moto phone I've had in many years. Love HTC, but, uh...........

Preorder info? C'mon Verizon...
Yep, here we go again playing the waiting game with VZW. Their marketing dept. must be rolling in laughter at all the queries about each new Android phone. I'd LOVE to be a fly on the wall at one of their strategy meetings. I'd be a fly with a live streaming blog.

Yeah my store doesn't take orders yet either, I don't even think they knew what the phone was. The woman said umm.... not at this moment.

They received an e-mail last night around 7pm CDT (stores usually closed at that time) that told them the details.
