Xperia X10 Issues List

Anyone else having the bottom of the screen go all distorted and full of lines when the phone is turned from horizontal to diagonal or vice versa? Mine does it every so often, and only when tuning the phone, And the strange thing is it only happens on the bottom on the screen.

I sugest you get a new phone ,that's a hardware problem !

P.S. : It's ok if it gets distorted for a short time ,it's the software that does that!

I need to know if anyone have the same problem with me and know how to resolve it.

I subscribed 3G connection and has enjoyed the speed. However, I found that in some occasion when I disconnect from 3G connection, my x10 cannot reconnect back automatically. The fastest way to get back 3G connection is by enable the Airplane mode for awhile and disable it again. Then only my 3G connection establish. And I believe this is not the way to do... :(

Is it because my x10 setting or the operator fault? Anyone...thanks.

From what i tested ,it's the operator's fault OR you need to get a new SIM card [probably it's loosing signal].

I use the vibrate on keypad entry function and sometimes it vibrates for much longer than it should, earlier it went for about 10 seconds! It also seems to sometimes make the spacebar 'stick'. Weird.

the biggest issue is the crappy text message and alarm ringers they give you. you can change the phones ringer but from what i understand you cant do anything to the text and alarm ringers. one of the reasons i liked my bold 9700 was its ability to customize the profiles, i could have it vibrate x amount of times followed by x amount of rings and if i wanted a sound file of me farting as my alarm i could use it. aside from that the camera randomly not saving pictures pisses me off

oh and the lack of camera flash. for a phone like this with such a high res camera why wouldnt they incorporate a flash

I have been looking into replacing my w810i for a while and I have been looking into getting an x10. However, one issue I had with the w810i was that while it stated that it supported bluetooth audio, I could never get it to pair with my stereo. It would work for phone calls but not music.
I read that this was not an isolated issue so I am curious if this is an issue that people are having with the x10. From reading this, there seem to have been some people with issues but were able to resolve them via repeatedly trying to re-pair the devices? At any rate, I would be trying to connect it to a FH-P8000BT. I know that it can play via bluetooth as a friend tested using his iPhone and it was able to work without issue.
The Owner's Manual says it supports A2DP among other things. Uses bluetooth 2.0.

Sorry if this is the wrong place but if it is an issue then this would be a good place for it, yes?

thinking to buy this phone , however from many forums and youtube comments , i found that this phone has way too low call volume that you cant even hear it when at noisy places.

is this true ? be true to yourself and kindly reply.

thanks in advance.

Ok, here's my issues i have so far with this handset:
1. Auto screen brightness is unstable, i find it keeps going up and down all the time while im trying to use it, sometimes it gets stuck on ridiculously bright, to the point i wonder if it's about to burn out!
2. No flash support in browser.
3. Lack of basic functions, such as a file manager, and being able to send files over bluetooth etc.
4. I have a bluetooth watch made by SE, and they have not even made this- their own product- compatible with the handset!
5. Camera light. I don't know of any other phone that doesn't flash when needed when taking a photo. Come on Sony, you make cameras for goodness sake!
6. Multi touch. Well, not a big one for me but pinch zooming would have been nice.
7. Keyboard. Bit too sensitive at times, while at others it will drag its heels a bit.
8. Choice which memory to install apps to would be nice.
9. In-call display is a bit annoying. In the day where most phone calls involve tapping numbers at some point, i find myself having to scroll a menu pane up, or double tap the screen to activate it. The proximity sensor locks the screen so why can't it unlock it?
10. - And from what i've been reading, this could solve most if not all the issues i've listed - The Operating system. Version 1.6 is all they released it with, for whatever reason, but they have the opportunity to put things right here and bring out 2.1 -or even 2.2, but they need to be quick or they're going to lose face with a product that's otherwise extremely good overall. Again, come on Sony!

Let me make some replies based on my experiences with the phone:
1) There is a light sensor on the back of the phone near the camera (right where you put your fingers) make sure you aren't covering it.
2)Agreed. Kind of sucks.
3)All easily fixed from apps on the market.
4)It should work, unless its ancient. I've had very good success with my BT devices so far.
5)The camera does have a built in light, although it doesn't 'flash'. You can use the light when needed. I have heard rumour that flash will be enabled in the next android update.
6)I didn't care about Multitouch when I bought the phone, but now I wish it had it. For nothing other than never being able to play NES,SNES or GB games on my phone :(
7)The default keyboard is not good. Add another like HTC_IME or SWYPE (swype rocks)
8)This is an android limitation. Too be addressed in the next update as well.
9)Agreed. A serious pain. I have to use speaker phone when using any kind of automated menu.

I hope this sheds some light onto your problems.
Despite these limitations, I love the X10...

Does anyone else's X10 drop WiFi connections regularly. The router had no problem with the TG01, but for some reason the X10 drops connections

Mine seems to kill my router after a while for some reason. If I download files with wifi and leave it on for a while it seems to just stop working regardless of the power saving settings for Wlan. After it stops responding the whole router crashes and I can't even login. I have to restart the router to access it again. Netgear DG-834N is the model. I'm using DHCP and mode is "Up to 270MBs" if that is useful info to anyone.

That's really a secondary issue for me at the moment. The issues in the OP I really don't see as issues. Maybe for people that have used lots of smartphones, and want something more, it could be a deal-breaker but it's not for me.

1) For me the battery life is the main issue that needs to be sorted out. I've heard some people on the latest firmware have seen massive improvements in that regard so I'm hoping this won't be an issue for much longer.

2) Apps not closing is another issue for me. I admit I'm not experienced with Android so I could be paranoid for nothing but I have a lot of programs running in the background that I haven't even opened. Random things that I have installed that have no need to be running until I want them to. I assume that they are wasting CPU time and therefore battery power right?

3) Like others had said the flash on the camera is pretty average but I did read here that it will be working in future updates. Outside the pics are fantastic but inside with not a lot of light and they are very dark for me.

4) I'm having issues with Gmail not being able to sync headers only.

5) No Outlook sync. This I miss because I use Outlook and the Outlook calendar for appointments and such. On my old Nokia I could sync contacts from Outlook too which made life easy. I've gotten around it with the Gmail sync for contacts and all the Outlook stuff but it's a messy way to do it.

I admit some of them aren't major issues and probably because I haven't had much experience with Android. The battery is a problem though. I went from full charge to 65% while I was sleeping. Wifi and BT were off the whole time.

Having said all that I still love this phone. I'm sure I will work it all out soon enough but it's still annoying to have to customise it so much just to make it usable for more than 12 hours.

@Eddie: Yes agreed with everything you say, lets just hope they follow up on all their promises and put everything right! Including poor earpiece volume, which is another thing i forgot to mention. On the plus side I do believe that one thing they are going to do is bump up the video recording to HD though! The problem with the bluetooth watch has been explained- as i phoned SE, and they told me that due to os1.6 restrictions they were unable to give compatibility with these devices and it should be fixed in 2.1/2.2. I've since found out access to many bluetooth API's has supposedly been lifted in 2.1.
As for the display's light sensor issue though, im afraid i must correct, sorry! The LDR (or light sensor) is actually on the front of the phone, along with the prox sensor- see below. (Incidentally, light sensing for the camera itself is done through a feedback signal directly from the camera CCD chip, the light sensor isn't required for this.)
Was difficult to find a photo which catches the glass in just the right light to see the sensors underneath. Well masked by the glass!

Hi, while watching few Xperia video in YouTube, I noticed that above the 3 hard keys, on the screen they were showing soft keys too. Is there any apps that can opt for soft keys too? I love to have the soft keys on my screen for easy navigation.

I just feel so embarassed while I shoot indoor pics from Xperia with my colleague having simple Nokia 96. Indoor photo with flash, Nokia shines high, compared to Xperia. Outdoor, I accept, Xperia rocks!!! But to capture any movement scenes, just impossible.

I am getting pissed off with N8 features that is far far loaded compared to Xperia. Will an update match N8?

I store and backup all my SMS since it force close many a times, when I use the default messaging app. Is there any way to prevent such force close? I am really bugged up with these force close.

I formatted once wholly and still I see such force close happening on my default Xperia apps.

Big change today in the battery performance of my X10. I fully charged it last night and put it on Airplane mode overnight to see if the battery would still be used up quickly. It was still on 98% after 8 hours. I thought it was only going to get worse from here but even now 10 hours later it is still on 70%. Maybe it was because I cycled the battery enough times since I got the phone, which was only a few days ago, or it was some of the apps I was blocking at startup. I'm thinking it was the battery finally being conditioned properly though. So far I'm quite happy with it.

Some people have complained of the speaker volume when making calls, is that with the Xperia X10 or just some random ones? I deaf as it is lol.

OT/ I get my phone today this afternoon, whoot whoot :D

Compared to the Milestone the internal and external speaker volume sucks on the X10...

Besides that, here are some of my current issues:
- Battery life
- Battery cover
- My home button is becoming loose
- The virtual keyboard is horrid on it
- Can't switch to 2G to save battery
- and of course, running 1.6!

I can turn off 3G on my phone. Jusy open menu, go to wireless controls, mobile networks, network mode, and choose GSM only. This turns off 3G on my phone.

I'm with Rogers in Canada, and my phone doesn't have that option. It just says "WCDMA only" or "GSM/WCDMA Preferred". Both keep 3G on.

Thanks any way though.

I too am with Rogers in Canada. In order for me to turn off 3G, I also have to turn off MMS (so no picture messages will download until after I turn this back on). I just go to Settings > Wireless Controls > Mobile Networks and then uncheck the the checkmark next to 'MMS and Data' and that will turn off 3G (but also MMS, like I said).

Anyway, this is how I turn off 3G and it usually isn't a problem for MMS as I rarely receive MMS'. If I am doing any kind of wireless connectivity, it is usually through Wi-Fi anyway, so unless I can't connect to a network I don't use 3G. Hope this helps!
