Root Updated Odin Images Available - Latest T-Mobile Stock

FYI:
Just flashed from Take5 rom with a2sd. My phone seemed to hang on SAMSUNG logo when restarting. I got impatient and pulled the battery and tried again. I Also swapped SD cards. It hung up again, this time I pressed some buttons and the screen went black. Re-booted in recovery and hit menu. Rebooted and now I am at 1.6 v T939UVJE2! Not sure what happened or what I could of done to make it smoother.

k re-flashed it and it pass the samsung screen and it just turn black :\

Do you get any error messages from Odin when you use it? What ROM were you using before this one?

Turn off the phone, press and hold Volume Down + Call + End until the screen says "recovery".

When the [!] logo appears press "menu". This will clear your memory.

Got the looping Samsung issue, reflashed got the black screen issue, recovery'd and it's now on 1.6 OEM.

Thanks everyone.

Where you on an other ROM before this one?

Yes, was running Galaxy R12, now hitting the 0 Max, 0 Available memory issue. Maybe related to upgrading from the modded rom. Going to flash 1.5 and see if there's available memory and if so go ahead and flash back to 1.6 OEM.

So now that I've tried the 1.6 OTA update, I have reflashed Take5 and restored root, a2sd and my Titanium backup. My phone is back to where it was before the OTA, except that when I check the firmware update it is at 1.6 ver T939UVJE2. Just one question, do I have 1.6 updated version with root now? or am I missing something?

Max = Available = 0 memory issue is fixed by flashing to 1.5 then back to 1.6 for those interested.

Very odd. So far there seems to be two issues with flashing the update - the boot loop and this.

I will get the images for Take5 and Galaxy R12 and compare them against UVJE2 and see if I can figure this out.

Seems to be pretty easy to get around, and I'm a fan of clean upgrades anyway. Wouldn't want to waste any of your time with this when we can simply just flash 1.5 first.

Nu11u5 -

Any caveats going straight from UVIJ6 to UVJE2 via the new ODIN you've provided? Or, is it necessary to step up through UVJA3 first?
I was curious about the same thing. I decided to not test it, so I flashed back to UVJA3 first, and then flashed the 1.6 OEM. Doesn't answer the question, but this is just what I did.
There shouldn't be any problem flashing to this from any other ROM. It will ignore the recovery partition, so if you have a custom one it gets to stay.

The only thing that you might have to do in some cases is do a factory restore. Your userdata may be incompatible, but there is nothing else you can do about that. You will notice the phone acting very weird if this is the case.

The boot loader has never been touched since the phone's debut, which is good b/c flashing that gives me the willies. If boot gets fragged you can count on the phone being a brick - no more Download Mode.

Flash SUCCESS !! Went from stock 1.5 (UVIJ6) directly to Nu11u5's ODIN (OEM) 1.6 (UVJE2). With the exception of the touchscreen not working after the flash (a simple reboot fixes this), I had no issues whatsoever.

I did not bother to clear the user data or do a factory reset first - just kicked it off. Very slick! Almost too easy. :D

FWIW, I was using WinXP SP3 (32-bit), disabled virus protection (just in case), and had never rooted, never removed TWiz, and had never installed a different UI on my phone.

Hi,
I've tested the new rom for few hours and noticed the following:
1- Less memory available comparing to Take_5 (new is 64 MB and Take5 was 117MB). Would someone tell s the available x(memory correct?
Can we mix the best things in take5 with the recent Kernel and drivers from samsung in the new 1.6?

Would it be possible to have the following for the rooted 1.6 coming soon :) :
1- More available memory (may be as available in take_5)
2- Better dialer (where you can search names easily using first or last name)
3- A better home than ths samsung
4- Remove all the T-mobile programs
5- A better keyboard
Would it be possible to add as much as it could be from different phones (e.g. HTC dialer,..etc)

Changing the installed apps can be done now. If you are proficient with Linux (or have Ubuntu and can Google things) you can pull the system image out of the update tar (md5 is just a hash at the tail), mount it as a vfat disk, and edit the files on it. (Remember to make a new tar and sign it with md5sum afterward)

What can't be done right now is root. The reason for this is the system partition does not save permissions. Those are actually set every time you boot the phone and afterward cannot be changed due to security. We have to modify the kernel to change how those permissions are set to get root access. There should be more information on the feasibility of this by the end of the weekend.

Soon I do want to basically compare the BH2 system files to "pure Android" to see what is added and removed. The hope is I will be able to make a "mini-ROM" that can be the base of any future builds - just add what you want, tweak some settings, and done.

I've not done a lot of ROM editing, though, so some others here have quite a leg up on me.

Hey guys,

Question for those who have flashed the update. Is the update worth loosing apps to sd and root? I mean I only get the sleep bug every now and then and usually catch it quick enough I don't loose much battery power. I use root for A2SD and I have removed a lot of T-mobile bloatware. I also use zeam launcher so my BH2 runs pretty snappy as it is. Is the update worth loosing those things?

Question,

After updating to 1.6 OTA I went back to Take5, now my phone has the following
Firmware Version
1.6

Baseband Version
T939UVJE2

Kernel Version
2.6.29
root@sep-51 #1

Build number
DONUT BH_MAN No Twiz

What do I gain from the higher Baseband version over T939UVJA3?

Better Signal Reception...I noticed my WiFi Signal Reception was better. Cel Signal was about the same but a little better.

Been trying to flash to the maintenence update for 2 weeks, so I could get the OTA update. Wouldn't work, so I waited for this 1.6 image to be made, and after trying ALL day I FINALLY got it to work (drivers weren't installing properly).

I am SO thankful to all the work you guys have put into this. I have been dying for turn-by-turn, and it looks like we get MultiSelect in the Photo Gallery now, which will make it much easier to delete my photos and keep the files manageable.

Thank you again!!!

I think I'm gonna flash the update and then return to BH_MAN's factory 1.6. Maybe if I'm lucky that will fix the sleep bug.
