"Missing Droid X Real-World Give-Away" Contest (1st Post:Updated)

"Droid" is a registered Trade Mark of Lucas Films!!! Read the fine print at the bottom of droiddoes.com

Was R2D2 hanging about!?!!

I had a previous post where I linked it all together. They did not have one you could touch, everything was behind glass. I checked every where I could and did not see anything.

They have a Saturn V exhibit I am going to check tomorrow. Everything but Star Wars was closed so I could not go into that exhibit.

Okay. Just thought I'd give everyone an update.

First, I and my wife had a good time in Cleveland today. I've never been to Ohio. So, it was some good fun. We visited the Hard Rock Cafe, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and the Great Lakes Science Center right next door.

A detailed search revealed no phone. #12 is still out there somewhere. I felt like I was close, but I found nothing. It was especially convincing when I saw the lighthouse lens - amber waves indeed!!! I'm more and more convinced this is hidden outside in an environment safe location.

I did notice one light poll outside behind the SC with an exposed base and missing light. I got down on my hands and used a flashlight; no phone. The spider webs show this spot was not touched in some time. So, the phone was never there.

Keep searching this area if you're around. I'm convinced its there. Fortunately they've posted a clue about the Midwest for another X. I'm hoping it'll be closer to my hometown in IA and probably wont be back to CLE. Anyway, thanks to Cleveland for the good time and best of luck to everyone hunting for #12. Hopefully you'll get another clue for this one.

PS... I've missed out on the conversation today, but the latest clue for #17 puts it almost solidly in Metropolis, IL.

What are your thoughts behind Metropolis, IL?

First clues says metropolitan area. Second clue says it can take anything you throw at it, like the people there.

Metropolis, IL is the home of Superman. Kind of matches the clues if you think about it.

Ok then. I kinda get it. Do this for me.

1) Tell me why you think it should be stickied and
2) Tell me when this hunt is over

And if it's reasonable, I'll sticky this thread for you. k?

(Steven Shakes his head and walks off muttering something like... "dang kids!") ;)

1) You don't want a million threads about each clue. There's at least 4 new clues a day. One big thread clears the clutter and centralizes everything.

2) We don't know for sure, but best guess is on release day, July 15.

If it'd help/is possible we could change the thread title and first post so that the first most contains all the information we know and speculations to prevent the thread from becoming huge.

#1 - Aside from the notion that this whole hunt could be a marketing ploy, since we do not have any confirmation of missing Droid Xs as of yet, I have the faith in Verizon Wireless that they would not string along and ultimately disappoint thousands of their loyal consumers like this. Therefore, this hunt is a great opportunity for some Android enthusiasts to get their hands on these devices pre-release at a drastically reduced cost (free + gas + brain power).

#2 - We assume that this hunt will end before launch on July 15, 2010.

1) Already 23 pages AND we have at least 17 Droid X's out there to be found. :D Really good brainstorming going on for the people close to possible locations.

2) Hopefully 15 July

Alright so I got asked if this thread can be stickied, and it seems reasonable. I'm actually secretly following Droidlanding on Twitter so I can have two Droid phones :)

But anyways, this will stay stuck until the contest is over, and then its I'll be unstickying it. Enjoy guys and good luck to everyone (that isn't in California :))

Thanks, woop. And that's completely alright because I won't be needing it.

Hooray!! :)

That's funny. I was just in the process of sticking the thread and I saw woop did it. Great! I renamed it appropriately. So, it's here until the 15th! Enjoy!

Hey all,

Just thought I'd chime in to add another state to the wish list...

I've been following for quite a while, mostly wishing, as I doubt there will be one in Nebraska...

Good luck to the rest of you in areas more likely to see them!

So I just went to big firework show on Ft. Benning, GA/Columbus, GA.

Had a big tent.

Verizon was sponsoring the event passing out phones to basic training soldiers to call home.

Went up and asked them if they had any Droid X's to use. Or anything about DroidLanding.

Got nothing.. Said they wish they had one. Sucks

I am glad that Verizon is supporting our troops and making it possible for some of the to call home. I am sure their loved ones are glad to hear from them.

I know it's nice to support the troops n all, but I'd think they have cell phones already and they should have some support set up overseas not here, lol.

Most troops do have phones. However, during basic training, they are not allowed to have or use them. If they are caught using or possessing a personal phone without permission, they will be punished and could loose all phone privileges during basic.

Not when you are doing basic training. Those recruits look like Army.

Im going to Marine boot camp in January and under no circumstances are you allowed to have phones till after you graduate. So 3 months phone less pretty much. :( I can't wait!

yeah SO...I went back and re read the post and I didn't pay attention earlier to it saying basic training. my mistake, :) yeah I went through basic training and no you couldn't have your cell or anything else like that. just a pen n paper haha. now I'm jealous that vzw didn't bring me a cell phone to call home when I was in, also I'm jealous they get to have camelbacks in bct! :) happy birthday america!
