"Missing Droid X Real-World Give-Away" Contest (1st Post:Updated)

The problem is thhere have been so many contradictions in the hints (I do not think these contradictions are on purpose as puzzles or word probs) that its damn near impossible to know what we need to look for. Are they on or off? Are the hooked to a tv? Are they moving or stationary? Are they even at their locations yet?

Actually I was about to get to this point.

Some mention that they have landed: "Droid X designate #17 can take just about anything you throw at it. Just like the people where it landed."

All the clues could essentially read either:

Droid X number #17 - (This does not make sense saying number number 17)
Droid X point ...
Droid X designation ...
Droid X Destination ... (Maybe, just saying maybe guys)

Here is another reason: We have a few clues referencing high altitude or directing us to look up - like the original droid commercial.

So basically, I think you are correct and feel the same way - these could be landing or Drop sites. No I don't think they will drop them out of a plane.... or could they!? Now I'm thinking out loud here... hear me out for a second. There is a clue that basically says "when people say hey look at that, you better look..."

Also, check this out. You guys may have seen this, but a definition of designate shows something that seems relevant.

No not exactly a rocket propelled case, but relevant info I do believe.

In the shoes of the "Hunt Designers" I can imaging using the word mark or indicate, then attempting to find a word that is not so "everyday"

"Hey dude, look, this word designate shows a cool jet.. hu hu, lets use this word instead." - (Bevis & Butthead voices)

This question is being asked because I don't really use twitter all that much and am not sure. But what about looking at the 189 people that DroidLanding is following. It seems odd to me that the marketing people behind the campaign would really care to follow anyone. Could their locations (city wise) be those of the phones? It didn't entirely seem that way by looking at them quickly but it was an idea.

I didn't check all their locations, but it did seem somewhat random whom they followed. For example, one person was following 5 ppl (including droidlanding), but hadn't posted in months. Another person was surprised when droidlanding started following him.

Either it's random or maybe it does have to do with the location. I'm going to look into this a little more.

FWIW, the 5 following person was in portland, OR.

[Edit: Update] I'm pretty sure the followers are just people droidlanding chose at random to follow. Some haven't posted in months, many have no location listed at all, and the ones that do are rather scattered. [/Edit]

I went through alll of the profiles last night around midnight. No pattern that I can see and a lot don't have cities/locations. Going through those people tweets didn't help either.
 
You know. I went back through some of the old hints. The one that says the droid x's enhanced vision would be ther perfect tool to find the missing droids. Ironic. Well if you go to the actual motorola site for the droid x, and watch the video they download the google skymap app. Why that? Aren't there way better apps to show off.
 
Okay...thanks for that Geocaching site. There are over 15 within 10 minutes of me. I'm going to go check them today, but at the moment the quick note is how all of these outdoor ones even describe the log books as being in plastic bags, inside waterproof containers. If the FL one (#6) is in the open...it cannot be turned on or hooked up to anything, without drawing attention from everyday people or trained LEO's or security officers...

One big thing to point out with FL though is that outside of our downtown areas...no one walks around that comonly, unless with a dog or walking off a meal, and they're not looking in the bushes. lol So, FL has millions of places to hide right out in the open.

However, an interesting note is that as the geocaching descriptions say...the locations (the tourist info center, the HOA in a development, the farmer/landowner) all know about the packages hidden on their property!!

Oner last bit of advice for Florida hunters: REMEMBER it is ILLEGAL to stop your car along an orange grove or cattle field and walk beyond the easement (the side of the road the county/state owns, usually about 5 to 10 yards from the edge of the pavement. Too many people pick oranges and look for mushrooms. The police and fish and game officers WILL stop you and you WILL be trespassed! My co-workers and I must carry around our state and federal permits in our trucks at all times AND we have to have records of contracts with land owners where we stop to work with us at all times. Lastly...Florida DOT requires us to have safety placards and lights (amber) on our trucks when stopped on the road. I'm not sure how the laws are for private vehicles pulled over for non-emergency reasons are.

Just stay out of the farm and agriculture areas unless you want to be arrested and have your car impounded or get shot by a farmer. Yes...they do shoot orange thieves, and yes, it's legal to do so if you are on their land.

Might be because it is one of the most popular Google apps... it seems to make everyone's favorite apps list.

I don't know. They are using so much round about language that it is tough to tell what wording is significant and what isn't. Sometimes I feel we are giving them too much credit or looking too deeply into the terminology they are using. Until we find the first one, though, I guess we will have to over analyze everything.
 
I've had this twitch behind my right eye lately. Starts about 30 second after each hint and only goes away if I slam my head into something hard about a dozen times.......
 
Just reading a bit through the Droid X Manual.

Page 44 is the only page the word "Enhanced" is use.

It is referring to Bluetooth "Enhanced Stereo"

Just another thing to add to the list if you are doing a "physical" hunt, turn your Bluetooth on and search for "DROID X" - which is shown as the Device name. The android is usually only discoverable via bluetooth for 120 seconds, so in order to do this it would probably need a third party app running on it... yes it's a stretch, but this whole thing is when you get right down to it.

Just shooting ideas that I would try.
 
I thought I remembered a tweet saying some of the phones would be found in time to watch the fireworks, but can not find it now. Does anyone else remember that tweet? :confused:
