"Missing Droid X Real-World Give-Away" Contest (1st Post:Updated)

Definitely in the Keys:

#6: Possible location(s): Florida
-Droid X designate #6 is in the southernmost part of the country. Unless you count Hawaii. Droid X counts everything.
-Droid X designate #6 spotted! This one is pretty far south. Head for the keys then work your way up

I'm going with Miami.

[Edit:] I'm hoping they give a #1 clue soon. It was one of the first to have a city clue. The next one should give us a good idea where they're taking this mess.

Note: it says "Head up" not "head north"

Maybe it is in the keys somewhere at higher elevation? Not a mountain or anything but maybe a tall building or ship?

Everyone, time to start thinking like a guy in a 3-piece suit at an ad agency - and his lawyer.

How to make the most out of a launch campaign: create a feeding frenzy. We are all part of THAT. But all due respect, we're not enough. Maybe we are a core group, but they don't need to sell US on the X; they are USING us to build their campaign to the general public.

They will want to create a buzz ABOUT the hunt, and that will peak a day or two just before the official release date.

These clues are just designed to keep the hunt going, but nothing is going to be found until this weekend. They are just leading you on so far.

The "finds" will be video taped by the marketing people for use in commercials to be aired this weekend and through launch week. So there will be a hidden camera nearby.

The ad agency and Verizon lawyers will be terrified of liability, so nothing will remotely require hunters to endanger themselves or others, or trespass. Nothing hidden up billboards, high up outside buildings, chasing some moving vehicle, etc. Imagine a lawsuit for anyone injured. The Droids will be in a Verizon store or inside a public place (no admission fee required by most laws for contests), or in a guy's hand or a parked Verizon motorhome, someplace safely accessible. And the units will not arrive at their final "hiding place" until this weekend.

By the way, I have not found any official "Contest Rules" so there is always the possibility that this is NOT a real hunt and that we've all been duped - score one for the people who think this is just a metaphor for shipping Droids to consumers.

The clue says southernmost part of the country...so, the CONTINENTAL point is in Key West, while the southernmost part of the COUNTRY is in Hawaii:
In fact, a Google search for,

Note: it says "Head up" not "head north"

The keys are pretty flat. If it indeed means "Up", I would look on top of that huge bouy marker at the "Southern most point".

I really don't think this is the case. Theres 13k+ people following the twitter account. That's a lot of people to piss off, although admittedly only like .02% of their current customer base.

Re: #10.

So Houston isn't exactly low humidity. So maybe the tweeter is an idiot. Or maybe not.

Fire is hot and not humid. Which leads me to either something like pizza ovens or incinerators.

How about a park near an incinerator factory?

[Edit: The tweeter is either an idiot or extremely sloppy in his work]

Haha, I just had visions of people sticking their heads in ovens and crematoriums to disastrous, yet hilarious, effect. I have a twisted mind sometimes.

lol. which is why I said a park near an incinerator :)

Was there a big famous fire in Houston at one time? Maybe near that site?

edit - maybe near the fire museum?

They could still be in one place on a moving vehicle. The location of the phone would not change but the location of the vehicle carrying the phone could. My guess would be the vehicle must be something that takes a predictible and repetitive route to keep the tweets acurate. Like a bus, trolly or even an elevator.

edit: Could also mean that there are more to be announced...

or a fedex truck, lol

That is why there is such a large thought in my head that this is not a giveway/contest at all. Since this involves multiple states, there are many, many laws about contests and promotions to consider. In most states giveaways/contests fall under the "gambling laws" and therefore have upper and lower prize value limits, winners MUST be verified for taxes (the gov WON'T look the other way on that one...), age requirements, and methods of entry that do not costs excessive fees or break any laws. Some sates even require a method of entry that costs no money or fee or travel if the contest is part of a promotion.

At least as far as Florida is concerned, my friends over at Clear Channel, in the promotions department, promise me Verizon would have to hide a legal disclaimer somewhere, like they do between 0400hrs and 0500hrs for the radio station's promotions.

The key is they don't have to make the disclaimer "in your face." It could be fine print pretty much anywhere on their corporate website (if this is a Verizon [proper] promotion. and pass FL laws. I'm unsure about other state's laws.

I still want to know why:

-Droid designate #3 is using all its 1Ghz processing power just to navigate Lombard St.
-Droid designate #10 has landed. This state is big enough for two Droid X phones. And their 4.3” screens.
-Droid designate #10 is here. City, we have a problem. Finding it.
-Droid designate #11 is surfacing in a land-locked state. That is one powerful 1Ghz processor.
-Back to the east coast for a Droid designate #21 sighting. Tell the family you’ll be late.

Why would they leave out the "X" in "Droid Designate"???

Some ****** must be typing it

Yeah, I tend to agree. And with the launch being just a week away, I'm less inclined to follow their bogus "clues" and more inclined to stop by during lunch on the 15th and order one. I won't have it on the 15th, but who cares. Another week won't kill me, and even *if* it were a matter of having to have it first, Verizon screwed the pooch on that one by mis-shipping on the first- so... again, who cares?

Hence the idiot comment (plus there is no designate # 6, 184)

Stolen from someone else, I guarantee it. Not his picture.

I don't doubt it but I really need to get rid of my stupid Tour so I can't wait for this to either come out now or somehow be hiding in Columbus.
