It's not just the battery cover that is black. It's also the ring around the battery cover. You could get close to copying the look with just a battery cover, but not perfect.

I like it, but I agree they should of made it all white. But then again, with the Radio Shack cover that i have in white is giving the same effect, except that it adds a bit of width and depth to the phone.
I'm curious, does the rear camera lens still stick out, thus still having a possibility of it being scratched?

Picked mine up at 1pm today (L.A., CA - Hollywood to be specific). I actually love the look. And yes, I can confirm that the camera still sticks out.
The backing is a 'bit slippery, but I don't mind that much. Nontheless, I'm just charging right now, but I'll give more feedback when I get a chance later.

picked up my white one yesterday at the best buy in pacoima ca..when i left yesterday there were still 50 of them there..i was the first one to bring one home from that store..im sure they still have a ton of them left...

FYI just picked up a White Evo at the Best Buy at the Garden State Plaza. Didn't even preorder one. Got it at like 6:15pm

Umm well seeing that i was the one that tipped engadget and sent them pictures of MY phone that i posted on this forum first.. I am posting pics of my own phone. People on this forum got the pictures before the rest of the world did my friend.

As I've posted previously on the forums here (more than once in fact) HTC made the Touch for all 4 carriers, (or at least 3 of them) just over 2 years ago, about 28 months now). I know white, black, and grey-ish. I had a Black one (Sprint, actually traded up to the Evo from it), a friend of mine had the white one, it was exactly like the Evo white model, except the front was white as well (exactly like= the same material, the glossy smooth white color. When my friend got his Touch, he bought the extended battery, one that needed an extended back. So he gave me his white back and I used it on my Touch for just over a year, the half white and half black does not look all that bad. Plus I had a black body glove on my phone, I loved to take the body glove off and see people's faces when they saw the white back. I enjoyed it, it's a shame I cannot get a different colored back with my Seidio 3500 mAh battery, they ship it with a black back automatically.

Nope. Not on mine. Then again, I only had light leakage on 1 of the 1st 3 I had. But the screen is perfectly flush compared to my last 3.

It should have all been white. I worked for Sprint for almost 2 years, and the phones people used to bring in that look like that are when you go to those cheap mall kiosks that put those covers on your phone.
Did I miss something where apple now owns the color white? I will never understand why people say that. There were other white phones prior to the white iphones.

because apple is just about the only company who primarily uses the color white. and the EVO is the iphones main competition.

i mean come on, its even been stated that apples white ipod ear buds were a fashion statement. or at the least very iconic. google it

I had a white nokia before apple even made ipods let alone phones. Apple only offers headphones in white. Apple hipsters think when they wear apple headphones they are making a fashion statement but in reality its a d-bag statement.

Waiting to get my replacment from BB too. sux... hope i get a white one. well see but i could cares less long as it work better then the previous three. ive had bad luck with the best buy in my area.

yes i agree, but the fashion statement isn't really from my mouth. nor did i ever say apple was the first company or only company to use white, but it is apples primary color. nor have i ever liked anything in white. i also haven't been the only one to mention apple in this thread. nor can you deny that apple has popularized the color white with electronics. and you can't deny that having a white phone that looks and acts similar to an iphone doesn't look LIKE apple (which is all i was trying to say).
the guy asked where all the apple and iphone comments come from so i filled him in.
and in the end i said congrats on your new evo.
