"Missing Droid X Real-World Give-Away" Contest (1st Post:Updated)

.... & now we play the waiting game (Peter Griffin voice)

Seriously! It's almost 7AM PT and no tweets? Unusual. Myabe they realized how many people they pissed off yesterday with the rules and are changing their strategy. They get us addicted, then take away the toys. NOT FAIR!!!

Sorry to go back in time, but right before the Rules were posted here, there was a bunch of posts talking about a Verizon Icon on google maps, some not on stores or seem to be in the middle of nowhere, what happened to this? do we think it has anything to do with this hunt?

And, Can we please stop the bitching, we have the rules now, yes it would have been better to have them at the start, now we know what the deal is, and your either in or out.....

They were too random/inconsistent to mean anything at this point.

Bs. People aren't upset because they aren't getting a free phone. they're upset because for 2 weeks they've been led to believe this is "how Robert Langdon are you" and now its more "who's the closest idiot to the spot when we tweet it."

this was very poorly executed.

that's all. for tonight anyway.

jasonh nailed it. I really have no pony in this race as I live in an area that will most likely not be a hiding spot. Just looking through the tweets again with the revelation of the rules I have flashbacks of Bill Clinton on trial saying "It depends on what your definition of 'is' is..."

Ok, I'm done venting. Enjoy and don't get hurt racing for a piece-of-paper.

I'm still in. Even though I know I'm not getting the phone in San Francisco, it's still fun to think about where it could be. It will be even more fun to see if our theories were right. I just hope it's the people on this board who find them!

I can finally get some work done so I'm not here until 8pm again. .. unless the tweets start flying in ..

Remember one of the early clues; Forewarned is forearmed. Be forewarned, I will be looking for the SF phone if it's revelaed on Saturday. You can have Sunday :D

i still don't think they will give actual gps coordinates...my 2cents...i just think that would take the little bit of fun left completely out of this...

so pessimism aside, i really hope at least one of us from this thread gets one of the phones.
as it stands now, there are just under 16000 people following the twitter account, and probably a few hundred to maybe a few thousand more following on message boards and twitter but not logged into the count...with 21 phones being given away, i'd say that everyone in the thread probably has a slightly better chance of finding one of the phones based off all the guess work we've already provided...

if you do find one of the certificates, you gotta come back and post about it so the rest know what to look for...

lets see how many of these phones we can get

It depends on how many decimal places they provide and how well they hide the certificate. GPS coordinates can be pretty vague.

I really hope someone from here finds at least one.

hmmm...this is all very interesting...I was at a party yesterday evening and am jut seeing the new "rules" now. I'm just going to be optimistic and positive and I say we now just try to make sure people from this thread get as many as possible. If we get more than 10 of the 21, even if I don't get one, I'll still be happy that 'we' found them. ^_^

The T is silent, Brian. Sweet!!! I'm getting an Audi!

What's this "Tapatalk" I see everyone posting from & is this an app I should be downloading if I ever happpen to get my hands on a Dx ?

Yeah. Its like $3, but totally worth it. Much faster than the web interface.

It gives you an interface to a bunch of different forums.

I got a plan. I'm gonna have some friends dress up in verizon geer and bring some of thier cameras and equipment out and be a decoy. Everyone will be chasing them while I'm left w/ plenty of time to hunt for the phone. HAHAHA

I dare you! That would be freakin hilarious!!!!!!!

You're the first person I've seen bring up the idea that the GPS coordinates could intentionally be vague. You could end up being right, but I still lean away from that idea. It just isn't in the spirit of a scavenger hunt to do it that way. Geo caching, yes. Scavenger hunt, no. I also just don't think the suits in Verizon legal would sign off on that. It will be chaotic enough if the final clue leads 50 people to someplace as large as a park. If they give coordinates, then they will have all 50 of those people running to a specific spot. I don't see that ending well.

I've decided to go into Houston early Saturday morning for whatever it's worth (I'll be there until launch). So as long as they don't bust out the Houston final clue before then I should hopefully be ready to go. I hope people stay on the forum, because if they do release an actual clue, I may need help figuring it out, and there are some pretty smart people on here.
