"Missing Droid X Real-World Give-Away" Contest (1st Post:Updated)

REREAD HIS POST!

He found it in a pregnant lady wearing a Verizon shirt and gave it to a sweaty guy. His wife saw hiim do it from her office building.

i'm pretty sure he said that he found it in a Verizon shirt on a sweaty guy. He then gave it to a pregnant lady who was attached to the pier rail. then they all jumped off an office building.

2 down and 19 more to go in less than 6 days (July 15th). They will have to have 3 a day so be ready another one has to be Today

That one actually took a bit of time to find. There is like almost 40 minutes from the time of the coordinates to the tweet stating it was found. I wonder how this one was hidden. The last one was hidden in a map box, so it might be usefull to get that info.

So, from what I can tell from the postings, it looks like for the weekend, it will be Boston tomorrow and Washington, D.C. on Sunday?

Quick GPS nub questions.

When I do a "what's here" search for a location in google it spits out a gps coordinate that is in the form
31.317051,-65.102657

but the droid landing coordinates are in the form of
N 39 57.488 W 75 10.351

How do I convert the ones from google into the same format as from droidlanding?
I don't have a handheld GPS, so i'm trying to pre-map some of the possible locations with their GPS coordinates, droidlanding style.

Would I have to multiple the
.317051
and the
.102657
parts by 60 and thats it?

I know the W corelates to the (-) sign

thanks

A DMS value is converted to decimal degrees using the formula (D + M/60 + S/3600

There are no seconds in the DroidLanding tweets, so I guess just the first part (D + M/60)

Krichek and WOOP, are you in agreement that Lombard St clue was a CITY clue and not location? I'm trying to think where in SF there'd be a spot with one directional vision, and no huge crowds to view the hiding of the cert. I will be in the Sunset/Parkside area Saturday, and the only way I'll have a shot is if they put it in a park nearby, or MAYBE the Sutro Baths...but that's still at least 15 minutes away. Thoughts?
I think based on the previous clues that were found, that the Lombard clue is a city clue. And yeah, I agree that it has to be somewhere low in tourist traffic and somewhere that they can see you coming so they don't get caught off guard. But wheeerreeee.. hmm.

"Joseph Umanzor found Droid X designate #19 at Philadelphia's Ben Franklin Monument at 12:52pm today. Thanks to everyone who played!"

Was this inside the Institute? If so, then Joe had to buy a ticket.

Can't find a pic of this memorial showing either inside or out.

If these certificates could be inside a building as well as outside, this could change how we search.

Think I answered my own question. Snippet from the Franklin Institutes web site:

The Benjamin Franklin National Memorial is located IN the rotunda of Pennsylvania's most-visited museum, The Franklin Institute in Philadelphia.

Just got the tweet w/ pic. Yes it looks like it's inside at the Statue. Anyone know if this is a pay to get in museum?

I think we're going to start seeing a little more time in between clues/ coordinates and the actual finding once they start in on the less densely populated cities. I guess it just depends on where they put it, but in the West (like Vegas, SoCal, DFW, etc) there could be a lot more potential for having traffic/travel time factor in to the equation.

Anyway, just in case they give the clues today and I'm not at the computer, I'm in Las Vegas and waiting for #1 to drop. I'm on twitter @casesequence

Some people may be watching the twitter without actually following. I am not sure I am following or if I am just watching the Twit.

So who else is trying after #3? I want to know my competition:p

(Sorry I haven't been posting Mahers. Been busy and when I did have time to check, the thread was moving too fast for me)

Congrats to Joseph!!!!

Im not going to read through 80 pages but can you go to the place you think it is at before they post the GPS coordinates?

This is just going to perpetuate the stereotype that ethnics don't work and have tons of spare time to go out and hunt for cell phones.
