"Missing Droid X Real-World Give-Away" Contest (1st Post:Updated)

it's also not stated anywhere in the rules that you have to, if i find #12 i may try to tie it to sprint

If I find it - EBAY!

Droid X ebay before release = $1000
Droid X after release = $570~
Droid X Contract = $200

So planned correctly

Droid X Ebay Sale Price - Droid X Contract Price = Happy Guy with Droid X & $800 bucks! (*Minus gas, travel time, new keyboard and bandages for forehead)

I don't see why that matters much. You can watch a wide open area fairly easily. And if you're expecting a lot of people to go looking you don't want something with only one entrance/exit in case it gets crowded or something. Granted the Pier doesn't follow that logic but it seems like the second phone did.

I think if you are on-site looking for it, it would matter. I'd be looking for a group of people!

By #6, they might not be done with the contest until AFTER the 15th...

if results are up by the 20th they have to finish by the 19th which gives us 10 days..so 2/day from now til the 19th?

Just found some interesting tidbits on the official rules page:

4. Prizes and Approximate Retail Value ("ARV"): Prizes (21): A Verizon Wireless Droid Phone ARV $569.99 each. Service not included with phone. The total ARV of all prizes to be awarded in the Promotion is $11,969.79. Limit one (1) prize per person/household.

6. Winners List: For a list of winners, available from July 20, 2010 to August 20, 2010, and for the official rules visit Droid Does | The Next Generation of Does by Verizon Wireless.

Prize is awarded "as is" with no warranty or guarantee, either express or implied by Sponsor. By participating in the Promotion, participants agree to be bound by these Official Rules and the decisions of the Sponsor.

So by #4, I interpret that as if you have an existing contract you can activate this phone w/o re-upping.

By #6, they might not be done with the contest until AFTER the 15th...

The last bit is buried in rule #5, but implies that you won't have a warranty on this phone?

Here are the full list of rules: Verizon Wireless Droid Scavenger Hunt

Manf. Warranty should apply

Never have to re-up a contract when you have a contract free phone, ie purchased off ebay (non-contract phone of course)

I don't think they would go past the 15th:
1. Sweepstakes Period: The Verizon Wireless Droid Scavener Hunt (the "Promotion") begins 12:00:01 Eastern Time ("ET") on July 7, 2010 and ends 11:59:59 ET on July 15, 2010 (the "Promotion Period").

Yeah thought about that too, but then i would have to get the evo because i would stay with sprint, still have 16 months of contract left. think i'd rather have the x.

Who here is from Dallas, TX going after #5?

Depending on the day, I will be :D

Does anyone know if the phones they are giving away are unlocked? or do they come with the stipulation of accepting a verizon contract???

Thanks

Technically all VZW/Sprint phones are unlocked. The kicker is they have to have the ESN/MEID in their system to activate it. They only put their own phones in their systems. There are other things in the phone you'd have to change, but there is nothing preventing you from doing so.

I believe, with a phone in possession, you can do a month to month service plan with no need to sign a contract.

Yes. You miss out on NE2 though!

Not sure if "most" is correct, but certainly a sizable portion of it is produced in Cincinnati. Although, based on the other clues, I don't think this is a reasonable location to expect. (Although I would love it.)

The Ohio Droid X will likely be in Clevelanddo to the clue Droid X rocks (rock n roll HOF)

Yep: just google crissy field in SF
Maybe I'm blind but I don't see any pier by Crissy Field, other than a patch of land stretched into the bay which is owned by a yacht club. Do you mind screen shotting it? Maybe were referring to different areas? If you're talking about Fisherman's Wharf/Pier 39, then no, that is pretty far away from Crissy Fields and is INSANELY crowded/filled with tourists. That area is very cramped so it'd be hard to set up some sort of thing without people seeing and becoming curious. Just my take.

They better start churning out more than 1 per day then. 6.5 days to go w/ 19 phones to go... If they do 1 more today, they still need to average 3 per day through the 15th, right?

Still time to have another today. I figure we'll hear about another in 2-4 hours depending on central or west coast.

Are you a SPAM-Bot? I thought they only lurked in the comment sections of web sites!

Based on the clues and the locations of the found Xs, I'm going to take a couple of guesses where #14 and 16 are:

#14 is more than likely in Chicago and I would guess Grant park/Nat. History Museum area would be a good place to be heading for when the clues start heating up. There are a lot of spots in that general area that are public access, but not necessarily high traffic. It's also about 1/2 way between Cubs and Sox's ball diamonds. I doubt it would be on Navy Pier because of the amount of ppl, but it's a possibility.

#16 is probably in St. Louis. My guess would be in the downtown/arch area. I don't know St. Louis well, but this is the most public access area I can think of and it's near both the football and baseball stadiums.

These are the closest places for me, I'm about 1/2 way (3 hours either way) between both. :(
