"Missing Droid X Real-World Give-Away" Contest (1st Post:Updated)

Paging Mr. FancyPants (The Giant known as Francis)...we need confirmation...did you find a white piece of paper that you turned in for the black document with the red eye and #4 (the one you pictured with your phone)...or was the black card what was "hidden"???

The "certificate" is a black card with the number of the droid (#4) on the red eye illustration. That's all you're looking for and need to turn in. I posted a picture of it on here this morning alongside my droid x. The "certificate" in my case wasn't in plain sight. The tweeted hint mentioned "maps", so I assumed it was inside one of the many map bins along the pier. Eventually found it inside the map bin directly in front of the sculpture.

Chris may have been effing with us all yesterday...he said he saw you find a white piece of paper that was taped to the railing of the dock.
 
If I were to find a phone - being 17 - what would happen? Would they just give me the gift card and give the phone to the next person 18+?
 
I'm just concerned as to why Verizon hasn't started doing more than one phone per day...There's only six days left...19 phones...who knows what they're up to at this point.

yeah, i'm not sure what he's referring to. i don't think anyone was near me when i found it. it was only after i had been given the droid and talked a bit with the verizon people did others start showing up. the pier is rather long and isolated, and so i'm sure they selected that spot cause they could see from a distance who would be coming, which would allow them time to prepare and act as tourists. Surreal experience to say the least...

Do you mind telling me about how many people showed up after you looking for the certificate? Just to get an idea of how many people are competing...

Well if they are gonna do a west coast one (3, hopefully) they would announe at 04:00pm. I say #3 hopefully so I can see if there is any truth to this high altitude clue for my #7 X!!

Hmmm, he told us he was like seconds behind you and your pregnant wife and watched you find it on the railing. He said he asked the VZW rep to do a drawing cause he was so close. He also told us you told him that you were in a nearby park with your wife and that you figured it out from the final clue before the coordinates and headed for the dock, that's why you were "jonny on the spot" when the coords were posted and got it before him.

Did you even have a pregnant wife with you? Are you really a giant?

I can't say for sure. When I was there, maybe another 5-7 people came through, including a woman who thought I was the person giving the phone away. When I told her I was the winner, she got upset and left abruptly. She must have ran over over cause she was pretty sweaty. Anyways, I think most of the people in the video came after I left to go back to work as I don't remember seeing any of them, and I'm not in any of the shots other than the interview and handing over of the certificate. But then again, I was a little overwhelmed and not really keeping track of my surroundings. But take it from me, while there are lots of people following up on this contest virtually, I really don't think there are that many people who follow through with actually looking for them. If the location wasn't close to my work, and I wasn't on bike, I wouldn't have gone myself, assuming there'd be tons of other people who had already beaten me to the punch. But I was shocked cause I had gotten there, spent some time wandering around, and still had time to spare before anyone else showed up. So yeah, you guys should definitely go for it as the chances are pretty good if the conditions are right...
 
Anyone else kinda feel bad for the guys in the video with the map? Looks like they had put some thought/effort into it before the "rules" were made public too. :(

DC is about a 5 hour drive for me from Raleigh, NC. I would love to be there but I just don't know if I could chance it. I'm planning to get one next week anyway.
