"Missing Droid X Real-World Give-Away" Contest (1st Post:Updated)

Again, droid was found within 5 minutes after they post GPS location. And GPS location was posted within 30 minutes after final clue... It's all about luck

So, in hindsight, James Hook & Co lobster was the first hit on google for me when I initially searched "live lobsters Boston". Looks like, predictably, they are using google to research their clues. Keep that in mind for next time.

We ran right past it. It was at the James Hook Lobster Co, sticking out of a lobster trap. So frustrating! It's really hard to "look" when you're not sure where you are.

searched google maps at those coordinates with the word "lobster" came up with pictures of the lobster company. pictures somebody took of the old building they used to be in. and the lobster weather vane. if you look at the temporary home of where the x was found. the golden lobster weather vane is sitting out front.

hello, any DC hunters going to be out there tomorrow?

I can try in DC, with everyones help maybe we can be 1/4.....

I will be in NW a little before 1 pm....i can cover the verizon center just in case they get cute with the "center of power" thing

hmmm....is anyone else noticing that so far NONE of the winners' twitter accounts are/were "following" DroidLanding?

Am I just being a paranoid conspiracy hunter?

*Unfollows Droidlanding*

Lets see if this doesn't help my chances:)

Will it show you as following if you aren't actually using twitter? I'm a total tweeter newb, I'm getting the texts sent to my phone but didn't sign up on the DroidLanding page. Could be other people are following that way maybe?

If that was possible, it certainly is not the common method. So, the probability of that being true is rare.

Just log into your twitter account, and click on "profile" in the upper left. Look to see if it shows you following @DroidLanding.

So, someone mentioned a few days ago that @droiddecoder followed them on twitter. I saw something they posted and started following them. They are very organized and gave a clue about near the barking crab before coordinates came out. They also have a website. Someone suggested they may be Verizon's way of cleaning up the mess of this contest by making it very clear. Who knows, but I think they're worth following.

Correct. I follow and have spoken with the @DroidDecoder account a few times. Very polite, very friendly, and they know the locations as quickly as this board does. I have no idea if they're official, I never asked. They also have a website with all of the info updated to the minute: DroidDecoder : Flavors.me

I don't have a twitter account, when I try to sign into twitter it says "Oh Snap! We couldn't find you" I followed the instuctions on the DroidLanding page and sent a text to 40404. Thats where my messages come from, text messages from 40404.

I'd bet other people did the same thing..

But everyone with even moderate Twitter knowledge/experience knows that this is a horribly unreliable way to get Twitter updates. It works about 95% of the time, but can sometimes be hours late with sending the txt message, and is ALWAYS 90 second to 2 minutes behind, because of the Tweet having to first be sent to your carrier (AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, Sprint, etc...), and then it gets sent to your phone. Whereas using a twitter account and an application (desktop or mobile) can provide you with the tweet within a second of it being posted.

Ergo, the chances of a delayed follower ALWAYS winning is improbable, given facts and percentages. So, it's possible, but unlikely.

At the moment, I'm beginning to smell smoke. If the next winner is this same method...I'd say I'd see smoke. And...everyone knows what that means.

EDIT: I can only speak from my personal experience with T-Mobile as a provider. Maybe other networks are faster, but out of the three ways I am following DroidLanding.......txt is ALWAYS behind "Twhirl" (Seesmic) and "Twitter for Sidekick." Often by 1 minute, but never faster than 30 seconds, and yesterday as late as 45 minutes.

That's very suspicious... wth is going on here

I mean, they had the location, within 750ft of this one like 4min before the coords?!! WTH

Edit: and seemed pretty confident about it to boot...

OK, so I will be official androidforums.com representative hunter in LA :). There are probably another 1500 people hunting for DX#2,but I hope all together we can score on this one ;)
Nope, I'm in the bay area, about 20 mins northeast of SF.
