Help Supported video codecs?

I was looking at the Droid X to be my first Android phone and was curious about the supported video codecs. What files are supported and would the files supported on the Droid X be different from the Incredible or is it the same for all Android phones? Are there apps that offer better support?
Thanks

Wow! Its great that this phone supports so many video codecs! I love to have movie files stored on my mobile devices. I know that the iPhones and iPods only let me store mp4s, but most movies that I download come in divx, wmv, and avi. It will save so much trouble and video quality loss from converting files. :D

It's a key reason I'm buying the phone. I hate converting. It takes too long. Now I can retire my psp 2000, which is what I've been using to watch movies on the go and that only supported MP4 at a max res of 480x272. AND I have the option of playing these file from the droid x on any of my friend's HDTVs by simply plugging in the hdmi cable.

DivX is A MAJOR SELLING POINT. I don't know why none of the reviews/articles/tweets are not focusing on this amazing feature more???

So far, not DIVX or XVID file i tried to play on it played.
They all failed with "this file is not supported".
Also on the Motorola website there is no mention of DIVX or XVID support.
Rockplayer works no problem.

divx does paly. check the files encoding method. Rockplayer has a seek problem on my device.

It was OTA updated to 1.13.604

Hmm, strange, i am still on 1.13.513 and no OTA.
Did you do anything special to get it?

Regardless it is pretty lame they did not include XVID as well as most movies today are encoded with XVID and none play on the device.

i did not do anything other than check for the update and it was there.

I know about that XVID thing, kind of annoying. no x264 and HD-wmv support either.

Question, so does it also accept .m4v ?

I used handbrake to rip some DVD's to put on there. What if the dimensions are slightly higher or lower than the screen resolution, will the DX just stretch or shrink the video to the screen?

That's rather disappointing news about not supporting x264. I guess I will just have to re-encode files I want to watch on my phone. Any suggestions on good encoding software? In the past I have used MediaCoder to convert videos but I haven't had the need in a while.
