"Missing Droid X Real-World Give-Away" Contest (1st Post:Updated)

just apply. some places will train. say target. they'll start you in front of the store in uniform. work your way up to plain clothes

For those of you that are going on the DC hunt tomorrow..someone should ask how long before the coordinates are sent out is the certificate hidden...

verizon reps. in boston saw a blog poster lurking around the lobster place before they placed the certificate. so they waited until he crossed the bridge to the crab place

so the reps. place the certificate before the gps cord. but after the final clue??

Technically, again, because of taxes and what happens when you begin to actually do something on this scale... (research corporate responsibility, business ethics, and past cases involving class action lawsuits against illegally run contests [past contest deadlines]...)

They're seriously sending themselves into hot water with this. And, if it meant a chance for a free Droid X...I'd jump right onto any lawsuit. lol Again, once we pass "11:59:59 ET on July 15, 2010" all of those legal disclaimers and tax values expire. The "Sponsor and its Parties" would be 100% liable for pretty muh anything, including if I accidentally crashed my car while participating in this contest. lol ^_~ I'm just saying...Verizon's legal department would fire the entire promotions department. lol

To be able to sue and get anything out of it you'd have to be able to prove damages. I don't think that them giving away a cell phone after the day they said they were caused you to lose anything. So no damages means no restitution.

And I still think that as it gets closer to release date they are going to increase the number per day.

Also, nothing personal, but i think that is a good example of what is wrong with our country these days. Everyone is just looking for any reason to sue everybody else just to try and get money the easy way.

so does anybody wanna get together on tuesday and search for the x in Nashville? I'll be taking my wife to work in Murfreesboro

To everyone complaining that there's a ton of phones left and only a few days.

Don't forget, the rules say that they can end the contest at any time and not give away the rest of the phones. So for those of you saying they will have legal problems if it goes past the 15th they can just end the contest, not give out the phones and be in the clear.

I am kinda disappointed that they kinda lied in their tweets. They said yesterday that people would know #20's name in 2 days. Well, 1 day later it is found. I am from MA and I am not back home from vacation until tomorrow when they were supposed to release the GPS location :(

Louis, how does one become an LPO?

Just like the other poster said. In Florida, you must have a security license. The theme park I worked for would hire without a license but you had 90 days to get it. It was a weekend class split between Sat and Sunday, with Sunday being the day they tested on the gun range. (No, the theme park security didn't carry guns, but I chose to get an armed license.)

It's pretty simple. The theme park I worked for did not transfer over uniformed security into LPO or IV (Investigator) positions, because employees were frequently investigated and watched for theft as well. So, they never wanted you to be recognized. What I loved most about the job was they were much, much more relaxed on the grooming policies, because were supposed to blend in. lol I didn't have to shave everyday. ^_~

Just look for malls, big stores, etc. that are posting security/loss prevention jobs. Sometimes it can be as easy as just sitting in a room watching video screens of hidden/security cameras. I never had that job though. Sadly, the pay is not that high. Only a few dollars over minimum wage, at least with the company I worked for.

Have we confirmed that there is pretty much no point in searching for these before the final clue (before the coords) is released?

lol Firstly, I semi-agree with you. However, a lawsuit is by no mans an "easy way to get money." lol Especially not if you went up against a company as large as Verizon.

Lastly, Verizon began this contest in good faith, and they should end this contest in good faith. If they were to fail to do so and wrongly mislead people into missing work, spending money on gas and wear and tear on their vehicles, or even transportation (if you paid for a bus ride/subway, etc...)...Then, Verizon should be held liable.

If I tell you I'll pay you $1,000,000USD (one million US Dollars) to travel to my home and knock on my door, and then poorly handle the promotion of the contest/mislead people by maybe telling everyone I lived in a different address than my actual residence....yes, I should be held liable.

It's false advertising, poor business ethics, and possibly could lead to cohering/conspiracy charges, if I gave the winner any unfair advantage, like calling my friend and telling them where to go and what time to get there before anyone else...

I may just be sounding like a lawyer, which I am not, so I may also just sound like an idiot. But, if a company false advertises or purposefully mishandles a promotion...I 100% believe they should be held responsible. Remember, they are getting free publicity from this. No one forces any of us to participate, just like none of us forced Verizon into having this contest.

I'd sue the hell out of them. Especially in today's economy where if I can't land a job after I graduate next year...I'll have bad credit, no savings left, and a large student loan to pay back. I'm honestly participating in this contest. They should honestly run it.

The one problem with your premise there is that nobody is being forced to participate in this contest. Everyone is choosing to do it by their own free will. So therefore any costs incurred while participating would be on them and not recoverable as damages.

I'll agree with you that if they don't give them all away before the 15th that this contest was misleading. But about as far as you would get would be that they created some bad will with customers.

And finally, i haven't read over the rules totally, but i'll bet there is something in there to the effect that they can change the rules or cancel the promotion anytime they want. Its the classic cover-all for easily leaving yourself a way out.

i was sitting right next to the guy who was giving it away in boston... I was most likely the guy they noticed waiting around and as soon as i left i saw people running towards there... it suckeddd

I want to ask them something too. How do you send a DM? I couldn't find that option.

You and @droidlanding have to be following each other in order to Direct Message on twitter. Send them a tweet that you want them to follow you so that you can direct message them.

Yesterday they said tht droid number 2 was masquerading in hollywood. Today they said tht it is in la la land. Hollywood and los angeles are two seperate cities no? Then would la la land be referring to the city or county? City...

La La Land is a generic reference to the LA area, which could include separate cities like West Hollywood, LA, Malibu, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills etc. Clues so far are also too generic and are at best regional. Specifics are yet to come.

The area is too big to race across once coordinates come out. It will be pure dumb luck if you just happen to be conveniently located close enough to run or bike over, because forget about driving and finding a parking place. Contest will be over by then.
