"Missing Droid X Real-World Give-Away" Contest (1st Post:Updated)

I really hope they don't do the same thing with #7 in Seattle like they did with #14 and #21 today..Seattle is a crazy place to be trying to rush through....hills everywhere..omg

UPDATE: DroidDecoder DM'd me saying Verizon will clarify the issues we are complaining about here within the next few hours. Yup...it's a Verizon employee, possibly monitoring the contest. Th latest coordinates were not supposed to have been sent when they were.

Does that mean the certificate isn't even in place yet? Now THAT would be funny.

*man walks into mob of a couple dozen people searching every trashcan, bush and ledge*

"Uhhh, could everyone just turn around for a second? Just turn around ..."

Something told Chris Wallace it was all happening at the Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago. Here’s to the winner of a new Droid X!

Sorry -- few seconds too late.

Hey guys, I to have been following this thread and @Droidlanding since the beginning. I must say, I am pretty frustrated at how this thing has unraveled. Nevertheless, I am still holding out hope for #17. I believe it will be in Detroit. Hopefully they list the clues with more time in between them....

I understand people are starting to get upset with it but grow up. They are not telling you to devote all your time and effort into this. I think some are trying to hard and are getting mad for no reason, now a wrong cord. location or something is understandable, but getting mad because of the tweet times, come on. You know that there will be multiple droids a day, so doesn't matter if the update is 1 min that its up or 2 days. It's a game enjoy it

Notice they don't say when it was found...it was probably found an hour ago....

Seriously, how can not everyone be smelling fish on that one........

My guess is because it is not the same group as the people doing it on the east coast.

Retire, relax, enjoy your family. It is just a phone. Not worth it.

I understand your opinion and you're very right to have it. However, for me, I'm bound by obligation and honor to call out injustice whenever I see it...even in the form of a contest. My complaint comes from the fact that they aren't even getting the days right...forget minutes or even hours...they are screwing up by entire days...

They never said what day #14 would be..

Well you have to understand how much time and effort some of the people put into this thread/search.

The contest started off poorly. They just started giving out clues with no information, no rules posted. The original twitter page description made it sound like the phones were already placed and that they were in the wild, so people looked for them.

Sure going to look for a phone with few clues and information is partially the searchers fault but the contest runner should also be held responsible.

If you're going to put on a contest the rules should be clear from the beginning. They knew that this phone already had a lot of hype by the more avid android fans. They should have known that people were going to be looking for them early. In fact, they should have also been watching the forums like these to see what people are thinking and reacting. Maybe that's why the contest suddenly had rules and other information.

It's some of the basic rules of running an ARG. This isn't exactly the same as an arg but if you have people searching for these things and essentially playing a game you need to monitor the players and help guide them along. They haven't been doing that. What they have been doing hasn't even been the best way to go about it.

Yes some people might be getting a little too upset but the contest was handled poorly overall. I don't think anyone can really argue that it wasn't.

So if DroidDecoder or whatever knows of our complaints do you think they're reading this thread or other ones?

Also my guess is they do a second one in DC.

That would be cool. I just hope I'm able to get wherever it is. I live/work in the burbs so it's probably not worth trying. I was leaving Rockville when the one and only clue came out around noon. Drove the minivan with the wife and kids down Connecticut... :) I knew immediately it had to be Ben's. We turned around when we got the text that it was found.

Designate #21 was at N 38 55.028 W 77 01.727. Blake Ourso was on hot its trail & found it before the coordinates went out. Congrats!

Load of public relation BS?

I was just at Lincoln Park Zoo looking for number 14. The clue was easy, but with the GPS coming 2 minutes later I obviously wasn't able to get any kind of head start over there. The location that Google maps gave for the GPS coords was nothing, the parking lot/south gate. Looked there quickly then went in straight for the lions-big cats exhibit...(kingdom, droid x rules, pounce = lions to me). Walked around and through the exhibit for 20+ minutes. Nothing. Went back to the parking lot GPS coords. Nothing. Got the found message and still didn't see any verizon hubbub. Anyone know where at LP Zoo it was found?

Horrible execution of this contest.

Okay..."found it before the coords. went out" WTF? The contest rule state specifically that the cords. go out when it is hidden and start the 4 hour clock.....now Verizon's not even playing by their own rules....

I'm reffering to the previous day, when "clue A" would state to search for "Droid A" in 3 days, and hours later it "clue B" stated to look for "Droid A" in 2 days. Both, within hours of each other.

Not all are going to follow that format, one thing you also have to consider is weather, if it's outside or something then they might just announce final clue followed by cord to it. Not all of these are going to result in the exact same info as the others. Some droid's will give you exact spot clue like the chilli or might be vauge like lobster. Also the time inbetween might be different, like 30 mins. to cords. or 5 mins. And plus with people starting to get angry about the find before cords. where posted they might start holding what day it's gonna be
