Did VZW drop the mail in rebate?

Last fall when I ordered my wife's Droid by phone I still had to submit the $100 rebate by mail. Unless that has changed, you need to order online to get the instant rebate.

^ Guys its easy from what I hear,

Bill the phone to your account, send the rebate in. The Card will come before the next phone bill comes in and just apply the Rebate to the bill and then pay off the rest of the phone. This way you don't pay anything out of pocket and when you do get the bill its only 200 bucks + normal bill.

you cant bill the phone to the account...ive tried that...can you?

You should most certainly be able to, no matter in which manner you purchase the phone. Personally, I'm the type that would rather pay it off the day of the purchase, but it's a great option.

i never knew that. i unfortunately found out i have a past due. so i "cant upgrade" yet... i cant pay that and the phone. but thankfully i know a kid thats a manager of a few stores. i just emailed him to see if he will go around the past due and bill my account...that way he gets to sign me for 2 years...if not then i would just go online on friday pay it off and order the phone. ill see what he says

I am pretty sure they dropped the rebate.

I heard the same thing. It's not a huge deal, Verizon is much quicker to issue rebate debit cards than AT&T. It took them 4 weeks to get my wife's card to her, 3 weeks for mine. Previously, it took just over a week and change to get our cards from Verizon.

I've billed the phone to my account before for business. Makes it easier to write off the charges.

I ordered over the phone last week and asked for it for $199 no rebate. The rep said "we can match the online price". That apparently ment no rebate.

Talk to a manager or your friend and ask him this.
"if I pay off the past due now, will I then be able to bill the Droid X & accessories to my bill?"
As long as your credit isn't down the drain,
You should be all set for July 15th. ;)

I did this with the Droid Incredible purchase.

Think it depends on your payment as well as credit history.
But yes you can do it.

The last time I got a phone is was my Omnia. It had a $100 MIR which I mailed the next day. I rec'd the card in about 2 weeks. Then I went online and asked to be sent a check instead of using the card. (the procedure and website was explained in the letter that came with the card) The $100 check arrived about 7 days later. The best part was when I originally got the phone, car charger, case, and extra wall charger, I had it all charged to our phone account. So when the $100 check came in the mail, (about 2 weeks befor the wireless phone bill was due) the wife paid the bill, and I took the wife out for a nice dinner with the $100!

I'm gonna do it exactly the same way when I get my Droid X in a few days. The only difference will be this time I have a NE2 for $100 (that I obviously haven't used for some time) so my cost for the Droid X will be $99 plus whatever accessories I get. Which have a 25% discount attached, if you buy when upgrading.

The only "crack" in my plan may be that since I'm not a big fan of getting up early and standing in a loooong line, I probably won't go to the Verizon store here in Hawaii 'til about 10-11am, and take my chances on getting a phone when hopefully the line is a little shorter. If they're sold out.... well I gave it a shot. But I'm a pretty patient guy so if I have to wait a few days for the 2nd shipment, so be it.

I remain, "Patiently/Impatiently waiting for the release of the Droid X!"

I am not patient at all. Can it be 7/15 already?? :D

Yeah well for amazon you wouldnt use that then. You would just have to buy something for $100. You could always go to a bank and get a cash advance on it they will give you the $100 and you can spend it however you would like

Some people have said you can request a check if you go to the website.
The last time I did rebate they didn't do the debit card crap and sent checks so I don't know if it's true or not but if I need to send it the rebate I'll be looking at that option if available. I like to put my money in MY bank account and spend it any way I feel like.

Call me old fashion.

I'm also going to throw this out there, because i was in this same situation with a debit card I received from a VZW MIR awhile back. It should be noted that whenever you activate the debit card, it will REMAIN ACTIVE UNTIL YOU CLOSE THE ACCOUNT. There are stories of people who spend the entire amount on a card, throw it away, and later on find that someone managed to continuously charge items to the card.

Your best bet, is to transfer the amount on the card over to a Paypal address than IMMEDIATELY call the customer service dept. of the bank that issued the card to cancel it.

I find this hard to believe since it's a Debit Card. It should only pay out what is on it. So if some stranger finds it and reloads it (if it's even re loadable) with their money should I really care ?

Its a debit card not a credit card.
Of course it's always a good idea to cut up any old cards you have.

Just received a call from my Verizon rep. She was taking my info since I'll be making a new account for the X. She confirmed that there will be a $100 rebate on the X (it was a corporate store here in Tennessee).

Well from what I understand, there's a definite amount allocated to the card, but the issuing bank does not put restrictions on overdrafting (maybe there is an ultimate limit you can overdraft), but obviously it's always wise to shred and cancel all and any credit/debit cards you may no longer use.

Why take the chance?

When I spoke to VZW over the phone yesterday, they stated that it will be an instant rebate. They said the same thing last week.

I'm guessing they dropped the need to mail it in....

Did you talk to a store or customer service? Any time I have talked to customer service there is no mail in rebate, at the actual store though it is still mail in rebate. At least according to the store I am going to.

what I dont understand is why you cant buy gas with these cards..I have a 35 gallon tank I could blow the bottom out of the MIR card in one stop.. but the above poster that said pay your bill with it has the best solution for these blasted cards..
