Best Buy Mobile employee here! Feel free to ask me questions :)

So... could she upgrade her mom's phone... then go online and change over the activated phones?

I'm sure she could, but I've heard of some customers being charged for the full price of the phone when they do this. I don't know if these are isolated cases or not, it's just what we are told =/

We don't match online prices usually, we would need some type of confirmation that the price is 569.99 in store. We can call and check with the store, though I've done it off the online one just because I knew it was the same as the store and didn't feel like calling ;)

ok, cool, so maybe the $699 isnt a deal breaker, as long as I get a nice Best Buy agent that will price match the VZW store at $599 or $560.....

what is the full retail at VZW Store, anyone know?

Thank you for the heads up. So if I understand you correctly; the furthest BestBuy Mobile will take her is allow her mom to upgrade her phone. If she asks for them to switch it to her line, they won't allow it.

So after that, she can just literally swap phones with me and switch activations? :D they can't possibly fine her for that, right?

569 is the price I believe that was quoted earlier, from the DroidLanding contest.

Yes to the first part.

Is it possible? Sure. I've just been personally yelled at by customers who have done it later and gotten charged for it. And I don't like being yelled at :(

just called my local BB in Nebraska and asked if they started calling people yet. They said no probably tomorrow and then said something about they can't promise they will be getting any...so leaves me to think they didn't get any yet. I'm in the top 5 pre orders so lets hope they get at least 5. I guess if I haven't heard by tomorrow morning I will go to a vzw store.

I'm upgrading to the X from an LG enV2... does BBYM have the necessary equipment to port over all of my contact info? Also, (more general Android question) will that info merge with my existing Google Contacts once I sync my phone with my Google Account?

Yes, and yes.

We have a little machine :)

Aookay... I just went into my local Best Buy to check on the status of my pre-order. Whilst speaking with the rep, I asked him about Best Buy honoring the early upgrade that Verizon has touted so much. He told me that unless it shows in the system as time to upgrade, they can't do it. Is this true, or is there a way to do it that he doesn't know about?

Well, as has been discussed in this thread, it seems to be a store by store basis on NE2.

While it is possible to do a workaround to get the money off of the phone, the NE2 program is a specific to Verizon thing. We actually lose money when we do it, because Verizon doesn't reimburse us for it. Obviously, if you do it through them, they won't get hit.

So, it's really up to the Mobile Manager if he wants to do it, as there is no clear cut way to it.

So when Verizon came out and said that anyone with a contract expiring in 2010 can upgrade early, it only applied for Verizon? Not every Verizon reseller as well?

Okay guys!

I'm off to work. Closing tonight, going to get some things cleared up, I'll be back here round 10 PST to post what I find out.

And if you preordered from my store, expect my call for your pre-order!

:D

Lame. The BBYM manager told me that they didn't get enough to cover all the preorders so employee preorders get bumped (I was preorder #4 and we only got 4 phones).

What are the odds that Fedex shows up with some more during the day on Thurs or Fri?

Also, is it possible to buy the Black Tie on phones all at once, and not be billed monthly? Thanks!

p.s. the employee discount on the full retail price of the phone doesn't look half bad...:D
